Anyone running their max on LPG instead of fuel? (or am I the first one?)
Anyone running their max on LPG instead of fuel? (or am I the first one?)
I'm doing the conversion on Saturday.
Gas here is over $5.75/gallon & I can't keep up with the costs since my wife drives 60km to school each way.
Gas = $5.75/gallon
LPG = $2.15/gallon
The car will still have a switch that will let me control whether I want to drive on fuel or on LPG.
The power loss is almost minimal due to the 3.0l V6 engine. (but there will be some loss in power).
Once the car is converted, i'll try to get a dyno of both LPG & fuel to see how much loss is involved in power.
Cost of conversion $1,400.00
Money I'll save over the next 4 years ...... a lot more
Anyone in the states or anywhere else in the world running their max on LPG ?
EDIT: for those that don't know much about the conversions http://www.autogas.co.uk/index.php there's probably better websites but I just picked one from google.

In Russia its much cheapper and mileage is about the same. And there is a loss of power.
Well, the max burns about 12-14 Liters/100Km of Gas; on LPG, it'll burn anywhere from 13-15/100km; Loss of power is only noticeable on the cheaper installations. When you go with a better install & of course higher price, there is almost no loss in an engine like this.
I will still be able to run on regular fuel. There'll be a switch installed inside the car that lets me control what I drive on. There's a tank that's stored inside the trunk for the LPG.
Unfortunately this is the only way out of the high gas prices; about 80% of cars here are converted & each gas station now has fuel, diesel & LPG.

liquid propane gas would just be compressed propane. whenever you compress a gas it goes into a liquid state if the pressure it great enough. imagine if car were filled with propane and u got in an accident. say goodbye to a whole city block
Maybe if more people carried LPG here you would see more cars being converted to burn it... LPG is very common in the middle east and eastern europe. I don't know about Asian countries... and it's not really that dangerous either... since it's lighter than air it just floats away if the tank ruptures... some diesel trucks over here are converted to Propane. it seems to be a fairly easy conversion... LPG is mainly natural gas. it's lighter than Propane and is more easilly put to use in a gasoline engine rather than in a diessel... all you have to do is adjust the air/fuel ratio and there are some slight timing chages I think...
don't know what brought that on but there you go...

acutally wrong on this...the chances of a tank exploding especially a propane tank are next to NILL!
My brothers father in law works for a propane company in arizona...many people have the conversion. And there is no loss in power.
He had it in his f250 and his jeep cherokee. The tank wont explode...hell one of his workers rolled a tanker truck..didnt do nuthen but scratch the tank...

I agree.
Pics of the install will be up by the weekend. Install is about 8 hours (getting it done on Saturday)
