new keys

i have 98 se. The car didnt come with any of the orignal keys or the key fob. as far as I can tell the factory alarm is gone and the remains of an aftermarket one are there under the hood. But there is no key fob or anything for that either. And wen u lock all the doors with the key, the security lights stays on and then goes off like it was locked with the key fob. But the factory system doesnt work. Anyway, wat I really want to kno is if its possible to get an 05 nissan key to fit my car. I wouldnt pay to have to key fob installed becuause its not worth it. Thanks for any help. O and by the way the car has all the options.

I dont think an '05 key would be the way to go.

Even as early as '99 the keys themselves had transponders in them. = expensive

You can probably find some 95-98 keys on eBay, they even have Nismo blanks.

So you're saying I can find the key-fob transmitter thing under the hood? I think ym car SHOULDA had one, but I'm not sure. I didnt want to buy a key fob and find out ym car wasnt equipped.

A pic or description of the location would be super! Thanks

thefed- if you have a friend with keyless just try reprogramming the remote to yours.

I have a friend that bought a '96 SE with just one spare key, I programmed my remote to do both of our cars as a joke one time.

I think if you have the 'security' block with the little light you should be good.

how to program the remote is not in the owners manual. they want you to take it to the stealership and pay them big bucks.

but if you search the stickies in maxima.org 4th generation, you will find this...

How to Program OEM Alarm Key Fob Remote

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

To program the remote(s) follow this procedure

1. Close and lock all doors with power door lock switch on driver's door.

2. Insert and remove the key from the ignition more than 6 times within 10 seconds. The hazard warning lamps (both turn signals) will then flash twice and the original codes will be cleared.

3. Turn ignition key to "ACC" position.

4. Push the "Lock" button on the new remote controller once. At this time, the car learns the new ID code. The hazard warning lamps (both turn signals) will then flash twice.

For additional remotes continue below else go to step 9

5. If you need to activate additional remote controllers, manually unlock the driver's door only then lock again with door lock ****.

6. Push lock button on the additional remote controller once.

7. Hazard warning lamps (both turn signals) will then flash twice and additional remote is programmed.

8. For additional remotes, go back to step 5.

9. Open driver's door to exit programming state when done.

NOTE: Only a maximum of 4 remotes can be programmed to any ONE car.
