car won't turn over, help!

I've got a 2k 5 spd max, and the thing decided it doesn't like to start. at first i thought it might be the ignition coils not firing right. the plugs needed replacing, so there are new plugs in there. this is the second set of coils in the car. i got the second set used for cheap, which makes me think that they may have just gone to hell too.
at first the car was having trouble starting (this past week). sounded like it was going to fire and turn over. then it would try turning over for about 10 seconds, somewhat start and then die. then i would give it another shot and the same thing would happen maybe one or two more times, then it would start and run absolutely fine. basically all the car does now is make a single click when i turn the key. there is power to the car, i thought the battery might be dead, but the lights and radio are working fine still. this now leads me to believe the starter may be shot. has anyone run into something like this? please help!!!

where exactly is the starter? i'm gonna beat the hell out of it. the frustration has been building. seriously though, i bought a haynes manual last night to look into everything...and the page with the starter info is missing. gotta love when things work out like that.
really though, where is the starter located so i can give it a shot?

It's right under your intake duct,(follow your + terminal from the battery) you do not need to anihhilate it, just tap it once or twice with moderate authority....

This works for my 4th gen, and seeing the similarities,(parts/engine ) it's definately worth a try. Though, if it does indeed work, you may want to get a new starter soon.

If not, then what your problem could be.

if it's the battery, the lights might work, but would dim a lot when starting, more than was normal previously..... my starter went on my 4th gen and it didn't have trouble starting when it worked, just didn't work a lot.
