Non Maxima but a sick freaking system

My car audio "mentor" and friend Mic Wallace just won IASCA World Finals PRO street 601+ in his Beemers very first show. (We're talking sound quality here, folks)

Thought I'd post em over here for you to druel over. I got to see it go through some of it's stages of build, did a little help (like ***** work, not like talent or anything) on the amp rack and extension rails. Besides that, I used his air compressor, advice, knowledge...

Druel away!

THe underneath of the console is removalble plastic panel, so he can remove that and have easy access to it.

Yeah to me, it's not mainly the trunk that is special (though of course he does pull it of very cleanly, I love stealth, I love Genesis, espeicailly custum made for you Genesis, and he has a a pair of hard to find classic SQ subs, the IDW 15.

To me the kicks are the great part....and of course his grill covers are well done and clean. 8's and 5's in stealth kicks, w/ horns....HELLO Yummy.....I did get to take a big peak down there before finals, and I cannot express to you how far back those horns are.

I'll get to hear it later this week /weekend, but well, I guess I can tell you how it's gonna sound already. I'm so happy for him. He's finished 2nd a few times. He does this installing just as an ordinary joe outside his house and competes "pro" as he is sponsored.

Oh, and (to me) THE most important thing...that won't come accross on the internet..SQ...at it's finest. Can't wait to go hear it!.

Looks pretty nice. The kick panels were done really well. Not crazy about the advertising on the rockers though. Nice work overall.

hey Steve, you already did your fiberglassing on your kickpanels or whatever? Do you have pictures yet? I was anxious to see them finished up.

Uhh, they're half finished. They need a duraglassing to make it integrate better with the car then a final finish.

Don't even know if thats gonna happen, cause I'm dying to get some horns now and put 6's back in those kicks. I believe I get can 6's back there and have them WAY smaller (after seeing what Mic did w/ this Beemer...)

But anyway, here they are as they are now.......I tried to make them as small and non-existant as possible, but thats kind of hard with that much speakerage in there.

Steve are those the LCYs? When we through in the set that Chu had a couple weeks back it brought up that soundstage unbelievable measures. I considered doing ribbons, but I dont think it would be something my general customers would opt to spend on.

No these aren't the LCY's. These are the Aurum Cantus G2SI's, and before this I ran the Fountek Neo 3 ribbons. I wanted to try the LCY's but they're a lil pricey. I absolutely love ribbons, but install wise, they're hard to hide...and I am sick of people getting in my car and staring at them. THAT lowers the soundstage. Was this when you replaced his g2si's with lcy's? Were they the LCY 130's? I really wanted to try them out because they have the excellent vertical AND horizontal dispersion that would make them car friendly in the right install.

I haven't heard a pure ribbon tweeter I haven't liked, and would prolly go with ribbons if/when I make my own home setup. In a car though, they're doable, but I think tough to pull off stealthy.

I've poked around under the dash quite a bit looking at the horn potential of the max, and I'd say it's very doable (not goin as far back as in this beemer, but they'll go back there...get the minihorn throats). Lots of people think it's a really high end, tough install. In acuality, you just strap those ad boys in there under the dash, as far up and over as they can go, and parallel to the ground/bottom of dash. Make sure to make a carpeted under-dash mat to fil in any yunder/dash crevaces.j I'll prolly have horns in there in a few months, and of course will take pics.....

They are essentially tweeters, but play lower than your typical tweeter, into upper midrange. When I had CD1pro's, I had them crossed over at 1.25k at 24 bd/oct and I've known of some to cross over a bit lower. They are extremely efficient and loud. Think of prosound drivers, how loud they get with their horns....same thing with a horn body that works perfect under a dash. Soundstage, remarkably, will still be nice n high given all other system components are cool...

What appeals to me so much about horns is the sound of course, part of that being that they are stealth, offer maximum opportunity to minimize pathlength differences in a car while leaving room for goodies in the kicks. This, to me, makes them very install friendly in a SQ car. And again, they sound great IMO and are easier to mount/use than most think. Need to run them active, though....

I haven't looked at the dash extensively, but isn't it a lil low for horns? I'd love to do horns/5's/8's.....

No, it's not too low for horns. They'll work just fine in a max
