can someone in North NJ install my KS

i'm looking for someone to put in my KS, obviously i'll pay, but i don't know how much work goes into it and so i can't really come up with a price. i know what the shop that my car is at wants for the job thoughand am looking to save some money since i don't have too much to throw around right now. i'm in montclair, NJ and it would probably be next week since i need to order the KS. if you can help me out, please reply or PM me or email me or whatever so we can work something out.

Hmmm Maybe try the regional forums Or search since it's a very easy job once you know how to do it... even then it's self explanatory once you get started.

If you have other codes, it won't show up using the normal way i think.

plan on replacing myself

after the guy told me $150 for the sensor and 3 hours of labour, i freaked so, i'm gonna replace on my own follwoing these instructions http://www.motorvate.ca/mvp.php/507

Are they good/accurate/realistic?

Do i need to disconnect the battery - i have a fear of getting electrocuted?

How much CDN should i pay for a knock sensor? used/new?

thanks in advance,

WOW ... the job is EXTREMELY easy provided you can get you hands between the Intake manifold and engine. You just ratchet the old one out, pull it off, put the new one on, and reratchet it back on. The hardest part is taking it off and on since it is SUCH a tight fit. Make sure you have those ratchets the bend and twist in everyway and it shouldn't be too hard. I only have straight ones and was only capable of getting 1 click every turn so I said **** it and paid 60 to have it installed at my local tire place.

Do not worry about disconnecting anything else including the battery. Take a flashlight and shine down there and you will see it.

i took mine off to clean it last night, its not a big issue at all. just pull the whole assembly off from the TB to the top of the airbox, disconnect all the harnesses, use a large phillips head screwdriver to unbolt it, bold new one on. dont try to do it in the car, too little space to work with

it took me a matter of 5 minutes to change my knock sensor it was probably easier than changing my oil. with the right tools many things can be done with ease

IMO If you do not buy it online, you're not getting the best deal.

So with that said, get a hold of Bobo/JClaw/Jime for CND references, or post in regional ...

refurbished KS .. ... It's either new or not.

It's easy with a socket wrench, extension and universal joint. You kinda have to do it blind. And have a magnet handy cuz your going to drop the bolt at least once trying to put it back in. Put the bolt thru the ks and lower it back into place by the harness. Check the codes like normal. If its bad it'll show up.

PERSONALLY, i'd take it to the stealership. from what i've heard, our cars are notorious for bad KS. my starter, coolant temp sensor, and KS went after my dad took it to friggen pep boys (BAD IDEA) so then we took it to the dealership. now i have like a 4 yr warranty on the parts, which comes in handy cuz i think something's wrong with my starter... anyway my point is, sometimes if u know a part is libeled to malfunction again, get it done at the dealership so u have warranty. ;D

Sure it will run, in fault mod. Mine had surging acceleration. Got my zoom back after I changed it. Also, mine ohmed out at 550ohms like normal.

In the Chicago area, they want about $440 parts and labor. Give me a break. My local Pep Boys must have been reading Maxilma.org since they know how to do it with the universal and extensions, however, they have to go by the book time. Still about $200 labor.

Even the dealer never pulls the IM off the car... some family friends had their maxima into the dealer for some maintenance and had their knock sensor replaced. There was absolutely no signs of the IM being pulled off the car (but I could see the shiny new KS in there).

Stop being a postwhore and spreading bad information ... If you read the stickys you can easily replace everything you just posted about.. It adds piece of mind and keeps your wallet stacked (in regards to taking it to the delaership/pep boys)

Starter from AZ gives youy a lifetime warranty ...

KS/ECTS from dealer wont have a warranty, only on 'installation' meaning none on the part.

If you buy those items from the dealer and install yourself you save enough for 2-3 more of those sensors and that's a whole lotta miles/years.
