Can't get the A/T Computer to Output anything

I'm following the procedure in the Haynes Manual for the 95-97 diagnosis for outputting tranny codes. I've been at it for atleast an hour but it's not displaying any codes. The O/D Off light is not blinking but if you read my other thread I am having a tranny issue. But I can't get the tranny to output anything.

Does the O/D light blink at start up indicating a problem?
I don't think you can get it to output anything if it doesn't alert you that a code is stored.

Somebody correct me if I'm wrong....

Did you dance a jig and bark at a waxing moon in the third month of the season of the wolf between steps 3 and four and then again, but in reverse order, between steps 16 and 17?
