First of all, I'm going to keep the hell out of Billerica.... I have the same tint percentage as you and have not been bothered by anyone. I believe the law has changed to 35% all around or just the window behind the driver's window has to be 35%, I'm not sure. You can look it up on a Mass law website. Yikes! $250. is a steep ticket!!! You're a kid in a flashy car, what do you expect? Try going to court and fight it, maybe you'll get it reduced. Good luck.

maybe he was being nice and gave you a ticket for a non-moving violation that won't go on your insurance vs. a speeding ticket... that will...?

Take the tint off your windows then talk to the prosecutor and get your fine reduced. Then either slow down or make your car a little less noticable.

Pretty simple......really.

If your plates are from MA, I wouldn't worry. A lot of cops don't even know their own states laws let alone other states.

I thought the stock windows had some ubsurdly low tint grade already applied (like 95% or something) embedded in the glass.

If this is true, if you had 20%, then when *tested* (how did he come up with an exact percentage on the side of the hwy anyways?) it would be ~15% or so...

I'm going to college in NY state, but the car is registered in CT. CT is 35% all around, but I will be getting 22% done on every window except my windshield.

While I know even this is illegal, when pulled over in another state, do tint rules apply for the state in which you are in, or the state the car's registered in???

That little sticker basically says that the shop complied with the applicable laws when installing the tint. And while the paper is 20%, the glass deflects a small amount of light. Tomservo would be about right with the percentage. So 14-15% sounds about right...Talk to the judge, I'm sure he/she will listen a bit more.

Registered, since you really can't be held liable for laws in states you're passing through - like in MD, you wouldn't get fined for not having a front plate if you were reg'ed in TN or another single-plate state.

Chances are they wouldn't even care, especially not enough to find out what the other state's laws are on it. Hmm...I wonder if they have any sort of power enforcing another state's laws in that case.

35% all around. They changed the law 2 years ago. Before you were able to do 35% fronts and limo in the rears. Not Anymore....!

Oh crappola, I hope I don't get stopped then, because I have 20% in the rears. Well, I behave myself on the road anyway. My car is not too flashy to attract cops.

Billerica is named for a guy that got his head shot off by a cannonball, figures it would have messed up cops too. I am sometimes very glad I no longer live in the Commie Wealth of Taxachussetts anymore.
PA has laws, but as long you get the inspection sticker it doesn't matter. I have never heard of PA cops running around with a meter, and hopefully I never will. NJ cops on the other hand.....
