$10 mod...better sound
$10 mod...better sound
everyone said how they dyunomatted their rear deck to stop the rattle...well i went to home depot, bought 2 rolls of home insulation...and stuffed it in squares and pieces under the rear deck. it worked quite well. my deck was missing 2 clips..and now it doesnt rattle anymore and the bass is somewhat tighter. definetly works!! try it!! but wear long sleeves and gloves cuz it itches!! lol
and i dono y everyone hates on the bose...it has great sound compared to most other stock systems..sounds very natural and offers very little listening fatigue. unless you have a high end system, most get very annoying at high volume and tend to "screech". that is minimized in the bose system. also sound is even left and right and front and back. ive noticed some cars or systems sound like one side is louder than the other if you sit right, or if you ride non-solo. def not the best system out there, but damn good.

The "hating" comes from the fact that for the price you pay on the Bose, you can do much better with aftermarket components - and then some.
Of course this doesn't take into account that you really can't opt for some of the options without getting the Bose, and you can't have as clean of a look on the dash with aftermarket components without having custom work done.
Personally, the Bose system (Clarion on 5th gens, Panasonics on most 2k+ Altima's) is fine but not worth its weight in gold. I like good balanced sound and a system that can accurately (or at least cleanly) reproduce a good frequency range. I have yet to be in a mass-produced vehicle with a Bose system in place that can do this.
Try this on for kicks, turn on your Bose and take out the subwoofer. Sounds dinky doesn't it? Now go find someone with the OEM radio and plug in a sub. Tell me what you hear. Better yet, try an OEM radio with aftermarket speakers, a sub and an amp.
The problem with Bose (both car and home audio) is that you can get better sounding, better built speakers for less money elsewhere (Bose home speakers are paper cones and foam surrounds). Sure, for most people Bose sounds fine, but you can do way better for less money.
They are just living off of marketing.

I dont know if the maximas havethe same bose system as the I35 but my I35 has a nice system for stock but I think it is somewhat unusual. Most stock car systems get pretty loud. Not great quality and deff lacking in bass, but they get loud. I think my old camry had something like 80 watts of total power but it got pretty damn loud for what it was. When I got my I35 the sound just plain sounded muffled. I have gotten used to it since then but even now it sounds muffled. I have the treble all the way up and the bass at at the middle level and the bass still is the loudest thing in the car. So I thought that was kinda odd. Secondly the Bose in the I35 is 200 watts yet I cant seem to get it loud enough when I really wanna rock. If I'm doing 80 with the windows down I have my stereo at its highest level and it doesnt seem loud at all, and I'm not someone who goes to rock concerts and likes their music at 130 dBs. I wonder if there is something wrong with my tweeters. I put my ear to them and they are working just not pushing much sound at all. I dont get it anyone else find this to be the case?
sciff5, the Bose system is the same as the Maximas. Your system is either not working right or your ears are....something. I have my sound set to 10-15 at all times, and anything above 19 is too loud for me. Also, if I have Bass set to +2 and go over 14 on volume, my rear deck rattles like crazy. How you can turn it to max volume and stand the rattling is beyond me.
well i def would not spend $50 on dynomat, although it probably works better, $10 insulation worked great for me. and the tweeters in the bose arent meant to be loud, as they take care of the super high frequencies, the rear door speakers take care of mid to high frequencies, and the fronts and sub take care of the bass. on your camry, it had a basic sound system. it sounded loud because your treble was overboosted. it sounds decent that way,but the bose system is meant to sound natural. agreed though, its not super loud. wattage doesnt always have to do with loudness, rather the volume can be cranked with no distortion. also the bose runs on 2 ohms which doesnt need as much power to be loud. the sub has most of that power, not as much going to the door speakers.
bose isnt too bad, except i had to change mine twice by the dealer, since the cd kept muffling the sound. sciff you might want to get it checked out, my bose is pretty damn loud. yes you can get it cheapr aftermarket, but im good with my bose, its loud enough for me. with going 90+ windows down, still loud.
this is an evolution of the old Soonerfan "t-shirt mod" where he stuffed those areas (and the trunk lid) with old t-shirts to get rid of vibration
btw, as to the Bose...I always liked it personally, but had to switch it out so I could have RCA inputs for my MP3 player and other accessories. Put in an alpine deck (using Bose stock speakers) and the sound clarity is (seriously) much, much better.
Bose is better than most stock decks, but is not all that good compared to most decent aftermarket decks....
it's all about what makes YOU happy though

No need to hate on BOSE. No one said that it is the best system out there, but it does sound pretty good coming from the factory. However, i did blow the sub and have upraded to a fully amplified bazooka bass tube. That was an amazing difference, but it increased the rattle even more than with the stock sub. I guess its time to dynamat. I just love the fact that the bose system does not distort, i havent been able to handle a loud enough sound to hear any distortion, and there is something to say about that. Bose is just good for what it is, a stock premium system.

All you need to do is buy an RCA Converter. You can then plug that in to the stock Bose Amp Harness, you just have to figure out which wires to use on the stock harness. You don't need to cut in to the harness or anything, just plug the wires from the converter into the male end of the harness then reconnect the harness and viola, aftermarket amp/subs with the stock Bose amp/speakers/headunit.
I am curious about doing a clean sub install with all stock stuff myself but was wondering if i should just replace the head unit while i'm at it? i'd like to keep the stock look but i've had a rca line converter thingie (technical term) in my previous ride and it was only ok. (not good control of HIghs/mids/Lows). I just bought my 00 max 2 days ago and know little about everything so far. If u could post that diagram/wire colors and any comments/tips i would appreciate it. thanks in advance
for the 00..these are the wires

this is probably an obvious newb ? but where is the stock amp/harness located? and i am pretty good with stereo stuff so this might be obvious to me when i see it but i am assuming i am unpluggin the stock sub wires at the harness and replacing them with the ones from the rca harness? which will be the sub output before it is amplified? thanks in advance

thanks and yes it does but just wanted to check since u have already done it.... i want to use the rear speakers pairs for the rca converter correct? and if so did u tune ur head unit any certain way to get better sound? maybe install an in-line volume for bass only? or maybe u could just give me a brief description of what u have/did. i cut the sh*t out of my last stock harness tryin' to get it all soundin good and at the end of it all it sounded like sh*t cause i couldn't tune out the bass from my door speakers and my harness had some serious grounding issues after i was done so if u took 20 minutes and it worked great then i'm doin' it otherwise i suppose i might just invest in a total system but if i can stay stock i want to. anyways thank you for ur help so far

however, i will admit, nissan's tend to sport the better bose setups. acura bose SUCKS SOOO HARD...harder than my 5.5 gen's stock clarion setup, no freakin joke

Oh yeah, forgot to mention I also have a better aftermarket set of tweeters mounted in the stock locations.
Also I would NEVER BUY anything BOSE, that's just what was in my Max stock and I made it better. I have another headunit arriving on Monday, and then in another week or two I will be replacing all the speakers and adding more amps.
I've got amps all over the place, haha... 2 in my Camaro (for now), 1 in my Maxima (for now), and 3 in my bedroom, haha, I need to put those ones to work.
