I recently installed my subs in my car and under hard driving or even just going down a twisty road, or bumby one, my sub box tends to move around alot and has even caused a speaker wire to come loose constantly. what have you guys done to even out the trunk, or eliminate the moving. Any tricks are much appreciated! thanx!

 

Have you tried velcro?

 

well, i made a bracket and screwed it down to the cheap oem wood underneath the carpet, and now my subs stay nice and planted, even in the twisties.

 

I have the same problem, just happened today...now the subs dont work and i have to go in and play with the wires again. I have tried velcro myself but the subs are WAY too heavy for that. Im gonna have my friend try and bolt it down into the trunk and see if that works. Let me know if you figure out some method.

 

Haha my subs fricken broke the shyt out of that OEM wood piece. Its basically bent in half so that doenst help.

 

Guy's I had the same prpblem. I put the subs in pushed them as far back as they go and then cut to pieces of wood and put them infront of the sub box, one on each end of the box. Doesnt move around at all anymore and it sort of looks nice.

 

make a false floor and use some L brackets thats what i did

 

I just bolted the sub to the piece of sheetmetal behind the backseat.

 

Same problem here, I recently removed that crappy wood thing and let part of the box drop down into the spare tire well and it hasn't moved since.

 

Man I have been having this problem for years. They work one min and then the next they cut off. My brother and I try to wadge it in the trunk some how so that it doesnt move so much.

 

Bungie cord. Get some.

I used bungie cord and attached it to the holes i found behind the backseat. Hasn't moved an inch since.

 

Thats what I plan to do to get my 80 pound dead body from moving around

 

I used some really heavy duty velcro on my first box, it held fairly well. On my new box setup I went the L-bracket route and bolted that thing down. It was a bit of a pain to put in, but it's not going anywhere now.

 

A cheap way to fix your problem would be to use Trunk-Eez.

L brackets and hardware are your friend.

nothing substitutes mounting the stuff directly to the chassis. safest and easiest. less likely to get stolen as welll.. (but if it does, more dmaage done to car as they rip it out.)
I took the subs out of my box and drilled holes through the box and bolted it to the trunk floor.. then seal off with RTV silicone and put subs back in.

 

kinda like 9maxima5 i used a piece of particle board with the the nice white shelf-like coating. and it works really well. first i used a couple screws to hold it in place near the rear of the car in the false door for the spare, but it was not centered and looked stupid. but i took the screws out and centered it and it looks nice and is unobtrusive and a lot easier than l-brackets and ****

its not a good pic, but who takes a pic of their sub brace. just thought a visual might help and its a quick fix if you want to figure something else out

 

I did the same thing!!

Then I got coilovers and.... somehow that wasn't saving it from lateral forces any more.

The OEM wood thingy didn't help either. It got real warped real fast.

Here's what I did:

- Roughly cut a board of new wood to fit the trunk
- Yanked the styrofoam insert out of a shipping box and spray-glued it to the middle of the board to support it on the spare tire
- Laid down some of that rubber stuff that holds throw-rugs in place to keep the wood from smacking into the metal of the trunk on bumps
- Screwed L-brackets to the board to keep the sub in place
- Used a small bungie across the L-brackets to keep the sub from moving up and down

Kinda ghetto, but it worked like a charm.

I tried the wedge thing but it still let my box move side to side and the clunk as it hit the side of the trunk sounded S***y!

 

bungie cord cheap and easy. i attached the bungie to some holes under the deck lid and wrapped the the cord under the lip of the sub. its been sitting there and doesnt even budge when i take nasty turns at high speeds.

 

make the box big enough so that it CANT move

those subs were in my car when it flipped over and they didnt move an INCH and they are not bolted down at all

 

Wow look at those JLs...heh, as far as my single Bazooka triangle shaped box goes I used an L bracket and mounted it with 2 thick screws on the trunk sheet metal...It's been 4 months and all is well. Sounds so damn good my friends say there must be 2 12"s in the trunk for the sound it's producing then I show em a cheap $125 Bazooka and they say "wow".

 

Definately bolt it down, either cut a piece of plywood up to fit the trunk or use the OEM stuff. Every sub install I have done we just bought some L brackets and plywood. It works very well GL

 

Did you need an extra battery or stronger alt to power those up?

 

I have been using L brackets for years. Good solution to the moving box issue.
