I think the alarm takes 30 seconds before it sets. So for those first 30 seconds it wont go off. Try rolling the window down, close the door, lock it, wait at least 30 seconds then open it. It should go off then.

Openening the door from the inside after 30 seconds makes alarm go off? Go off as in siren/panic or go off as in you cant turn on the car?
lol, I think its a way of Nissan bringing up the price of the car. "it comes equipped with an Anti-Theft device" Does having an alarm lower your premium if you have full coverage?
not this alarm, no...
but yeah... you must actually open the door after unlocking from the inside before the alarm will go off.
it also has a hood and a trunk sensor on it.
when I first installed a FSTB on my VE (it was the old courtesy bar for the VG and fit the VE poorly.. had to bend it to fit over the intake), it pushed the hood up just enough so that it would set the alarm off every time a gust of wind hit the car and made the hood flex.
I fixed that by slotting the holes on the sensor and moving it up a tad...

If you want to test out your alarm, roll your driver window down, get outside the car, lock it, then wait 30 seconds until the light goes. Unlock the door (the lock inside the car, not with the key) from the outside and open it. Honk Honk Honk. Put the key in the door and turn the alarm off.
Last time I tried to be a gentleman I forgot I changed the lock cylinder in my passengers door and couldn't unlock with that key. Still waiting for internetautomarts old booted maxima key lol
I've got the key, it's on the keychain with my worthless van key copy.
son found it today or yesterday, maybe wednesday.
So when you bringing back the rest of the door and some loot?

Well I got good news for ya my child. I officially got the job at murrays, start tomorrow. I can take the door with some loot when I get on my feet since I'm on my mommas feet right now. And then we can all relax and giggle while looking at a 3rd gen maxima door.
sound good enough? Didnt mean to make you wait so long

Just by chance are you pressing that little button next to the ign. and moving the key into the completely off position?? I didn't know how to do it until I saw that button there. The light would blink then go off just as you described. All you do is turn the key into the acc mode, then move it completely back press the button and move it back once more and you'll hear a click. Then you can test the alarm out. It's always the simple stuff like that.
I went to test my alarm to find the Security light not flashing, took the panel off underneath the steering wheel to make sure its plugged and it is, checked the relay and put a diff on it and the light still off. I checked the fuses but no sure if any for the alarm
check the hood switch, the trunk switch and the door switches. if one of them don't work, the alarm won't set. also the ignition switch could be bad, it has a little switch built into it to detect if the key has been removed.

same here, you can only unlock it even with the key on the drivers door, pisses me off
i know ima wonnabe 3rd genner
but the freaken 2gen are DEAD im hang here a lot more
Everything was working fine til after I read this post on how to test it. It has to be that ignition key removal detection thing cuz everything else is plugged and working. I'm probably getting an aftermarket alarm/remote starter later on so I'm not really worried about my OEM alarm but it there's a cheap easy fix I'll go for it
