i have a '99 with the transponder key, with the chip. is there any place to get another key besides the dealer? can any locksmith cut and program one? any help would be great.

 

no, its a special chip ... dealer is a must for this ... glad I have a 98

 

Certain locksmiths can do it, but they will charge almost the same to program it because they have to pay the dealership to get the codes. You should still be able to save some money though compared to the stealership.

 

Don't listen to him. A lot of locksmiths can do it. Look in your local yellow pages, if you look in the ads a lot of them list if they can do it. Got mine done at a local locksmith, it was $45, versus the $95 the dealer wanted.

 

When my dad lost his only key to his '02 max, we had a locksmith come out. He had to reprogram everything though because we didn't have 1 key at all. I think it cost close to $100 with the key if I remember right.

 

I believe I've seen blank transponder keys on ebay. You would still have to pay to get them cut and programmed.

 

if you have a valet key you can use that!!!!!!!!!!
