Removing Door Moldings

I have a 98 GXE which is overall in pretty good shape. But some of the adhesive on the door moldings is starting to seperate, and I was thinking of pulling them off completely. 2 questions before I attempt it.
1) are the moldings just held on by adhesive, or is their holes in the doors with plastic clips in them.
2) does anyone have any pictures of a 4th gen with the moldings removed.
I couldnt find anything covering this anywhere on the site, thats why i am asking.
Thanks

I think somebody asked this awhile back and it ended up being holes underneath the molding.

mine actually have turned a different color over time. i'm thinking about painting them back to original color. will nissan touchup paint that works on the metal be the correct type of paint to use on the plastic door moldings? anyone know?

On My old gxe I used duplicolor on the moldings because they were a different color. I matched it with my paint code and spray painted the moldings, and they actually came out great, was very suprised by the results

Sorry guys I dont know why I would have trusted a factory manual. But I am one to always admit when i am wrong, and you guys were right, big holes and groove behind the molding.

ditto. since you pulled them off make sure you clean the moldings off goof and buy the thin 3m double sided tape. i've seen it in staples, but a body supply place would be best to buy it. i think my big roll was like 20-30 bucks

What they *should* do is weld in a metal plate and then smooth it out with bondo. If they just fill the whole thing with bondo it will crack and look like shit in a matter of months. Thankfully mine was done the right way

i used structural adhesive on mine so i wouldnt warp the metal. same stuff they use to glue on quarterpanels, roofs, door skins etc. it actually worked great. less grinding.first time i used it for this though so we'll see how well it holds up

thanks. no it's a 2 tone, might just be the way the light hits it. same happened with the side skirts. they look lighter than the body, but its just because they're at a different angle.
