Soo.. Clutch blew out, trans broke, Pushed my car home..

Yeah got 3 blocks away from my house when my clutch blew up. Heard a loud bang shifter flew out of 1st gear and went into N. My trans bearings got even louder, Now looking for a good used/ new 5-speed transmission ASAP. Anyone have any sites I can go and find awesome trans deals?

yeah really funny when, your ex boss who is a mechanic stops and looks doesnt even help, when your town police officers drive right pass you and don't even bother to help. And when its 32 outside, your girlfriend helping turn the wheel and your pushing the car 3 blocks on a one way road seems pretty funny.....

I've read a few threads like this when one explains that the tranny suddenly blew out on them. Where you guys getting any kind of hints or warnings that your tranny is developing a problem and is continually getting worse? I mean I know things like this can happen but it shouldn't. And for the most part, anything that can finally fail in your car should/would give you plenty of time and warning before it totally goes??

I know that when my clutch went, it was slipping quite a bit and progressively got worse. I drove it long enough til I can get ahold of the parts I needed for the job.

So what gives??

Holy crap. Hope you can find another tranny, or maybe have your current one fixed. good luck dood. I just went through some tranny issues and everything's resolved. I was getting huge drivetrain slack before, and I know my T/O bearing was going too.

Trust me mine was making noises for about 4 months now. My T/O bearing was screaming, and I Def had a few bad bearings inside the trans. Replaced the Left side transmission seal 2x because it kept ripping and leaking trans fluid. My Trans is Still alright but I will need to replace it. The bearings are bad, the clutch is totally gone. I felt it going the catch point on the pedal was high, couldn't feel anymore clutch pedal. Normal driving not racing, heard a loud bang, car jumped a bit and the shifter came right out of 1st gear and stayed in N. I can put it into each gear 100X easier Let go of the clutch completely step on the gas watch my RPMS go up and my Speedo move and just be standing still. I should have my car back in 3 weeks. Trying to get money now for the trans. I will take pictures of the clutch when It comes out of my car.

Let me ask you guys something because I have a 5 speed on my I30t...Did you guys do a lot of hard driving and taking off for the tranny to go out on you like that? I have 120K on my tranny and I don't notice any weird sounds or behavior...but then again I still don't pop the clutch up even when I want to take off fast

I agree with the above post. I made the mistake of trying to push a dying clutch for an extra couple of thousand miles on another car several years ago and broke down on the side of the road 200 miles or so on the first day of a long weekend. Never again!

It's as the old Fram commercial said: You can pay me now, or pay me later.

It's never wise to elect to pay later when it comes to clutches, trannies, brakes, suspensions etc.

Hmm, I can only imagine what he wrote to someone having made such a stupid mistake....

Fact is, you take care of the car, it takes care of you. You let the tranny growl and whine and buck and you're on your own. If a friend of mine had a car they knew had problems, and I saw them pushing it down the side of the road, I would probably pass them by too (as long as they weren't about to meet imminent death).

Sorry to hear about the accident. Its not a good feeling having to push your car home, especially 3 block away.

As suggested. www.car-part.com should be a great source for you, and I'd suggest checking in the yellow pages for junk yards, make a list and go down it calling each yard for a tranny, hopefully some yard(s) have one.

Are you going to swap the tranny out youself or have someone else do it?

Im going to have tarvarish prob end up coming here and helping me, im buying a brand new spanking trans, with a ACT clutch and Fidanza flywheel. Its going to be very interesting. My old trans will go to him, im sure he will find something messed up. I will take pictures of the whole over hauling.

The crappy thing about this idea is that the used tranny could become bearing hamburger 5k after you install it anyway. Plus, the junkyards don't know anything about the fact that Maxima trannys are often not running right due to one of the three bearing clearances being wrong, so you'll see prices like $800-1000. That's a lot of money for a tranny that could die at any moment.

It think the answer is simple (in theory): you need a rebuilt tranny, new clutch, resurface the flywheel, and new t/o bearing.
