driving..then the car just died...

I almost shat in my pants today fellas. I warmed up the car today for only just a little bit. Not as long as i usually do. The car idled just above 1000 rpms. So i take off slow and around a corner i hit it a little(just a little!) and the car died on me while i was turning. The power steering was gone and the abs was gone as well. If i was going any faster, i would have ran over that curb. Anyone know what the problem is? Do you think it was my maf? My car has had the ses light come on and off lately for running lean. IF it is my maf, does anyone one have dave b's contact? i guess ill need a maf and how much would it run me for, for an 00? Thanks

Dude, I have no idea why it happens but I think it’s normal. I had the same thing happen twice. (on different vehicles)

First it was my parent’s minivan, I was in a hurry and did not worm up the engine. After two minutes of driving I had to make a sharp turn…. Thank god the curb was not very high and I did not damage anything. It’s been more than a year since this happened and the car runs fine. (knock on wood)

The second time I was driving my Maxima, the same thing, was in a hurry, did not worm up the car, etc… I did not damage anything because I did not have to rotate the wheel any further. BTW: this happened the same week as I replaced my MAF.

I would not say this is "normal"...

Did the car throw any codes? I would get it to the dealer and have them check for any codes.

I had a similar incident happen to me a couple of weeks ago.
For me, it happened to be the alternator.
Make sure to check that out.

How can alternator be possibly affected by high centripetal forces? I’m absolutely positive that centripetal force was the cause of my stalls.

Did the engine cut out, the electrical system cut out, or both?

If the engine cuts you loose power steering and brakes.

It could have something to do with that thing that raises the engine rpm depending on how much you are turning. Can't remember what its called.

Like i said before, it was thowing lean codes before. (p0171) Thats what lead me to think it was the maf. **update** my ses went off again. This thing has gone on and off more than a kids mouth.
And yes the engine cut out. but the cdplayer stayed on and my battery light, and i think ses light came on after it cut out. I think its the lights that come on when you have ur key in the ACC position. Any more ideas?

Did you have the sensor recall done?

Mine shut off on me on the freeway and I had the sensors replaced and now the problems fixed.

What year is your Max? I had the crank sensor recall and the camshaft position sensor recall performed and the car has not stalled out since.

You should be able to call a local dealership, give them your VIN and they can tell you if your eligible.

its only for the VQ35.

after the car stalls, will it start immediately? if not, will it start if you unplug the MAF?

I had the same exact thing happen to me recently. As I was making a turn, the car died, steering wheel locked up and the dash lights came on. I took it to a shop and it turned out to be my idle air intake valve. I dont remember what the code was, but I had 2 mechanics take a look at the car (one of em used to work for a Nissan Stealership). And they both said the same thing. This is definitely something I could not do myself. I would suggest you have it looked at becuase for me this was not a MAF issue.

What does the idle air intake valve look like, how do i get it replaced, and how much is it going to cost me.. because it happened again earlier tonite. Luckily the road was wider, if i was going any faster during that turn my car would have been f***'d up.
Im really begining to think its my maf, my car is running lean and could it be running so lean that the maf is telling the car to shut off? Like theres not enough fuel that the engine cant run?
Feedback is VERY appreciated, id like to get this problem solved ASAP. I dont want to actually run over a curb at 25mph. Thanks
