Steering wheel became harder to turn

I noticed on my 2k2, that the steering wheel is a little bit stiffer then it used to be and it used to be smooth. It has 58k and I took care of all the maintanace on time.

I put more air in the tires, but that should make it easier to turn.

anything someone can think of? car is getting old? it was always smooth as butter to turn.

P.S. On my 01 I had new set of tires put on 2 weeks ago, and the steering wheel became so soft to turn all of the sudden after they put it on. So I am thinking maybe I need a new set of tires for the 2k2 since they look almost gone. So you think because there is less tread on the tire its harder to turn the wheel?

Yeah check fluid. My little brothers old ford explorer had a leak and when the fluid got low it would get really stiff to turn..........

fluid needs to be replaced probably at 60k. I hope the pump is not starting to go.

I am thinking too that maybe the cold is making it a little bit stiffer, but I really noticed it.

I'll check the fluid

thanks everyone for the input
