compass mirror problem!

i installed my new rear view mirror with compass today with no problem, but now i'm not sure how well it works. it will only display either "E" or "NE". i drove around in a circle 5 times like i've heard people suggest and it still gives me the same display. i also shut the car off and removed the key, then restarted it and i still get the same display. is the mirror broken? did i not do something i needed to do?

do you have a smarttoll/ezpass or other automated toll booth sensor thingy on your windshield? Or anything else that could putting out a magnetic field (radar detector, etc) up there?

magnets > compasses.

It may be a compass mirror designed for cars on the west coast. Since they can only drive east the west indicator is disabled.

Couldn't resist, sorry. We have one in our Murano and the Ez-pass doesn't seem to effect it. To set it up, try driving in circles in different directions, i.e. first to the left and then to the right.

i do have an ezpass right next to it, i really hope i don't have to move it. the mirror is out of a toyota camry. i looked up the calibration process online and i'm going to go try that now. i'll post my results.

If you read the Owners manual for the 03 Titanium edition, there is a section in there about setting the Magnetic variance for the compass based on your location on the US. Depending on where you are you may be off a degree or 2. This does not explain why it doesnt chance, but its worth a shot!
