This problem is driving me nuts..when i turn the car off, it makes this whinning noise from somewhere in the top back portion of the engine...and when the car is in park..and i hit the accelerator, the car makes the whining noise and it stalls..any ideas?

The noise is probably the motor mount.

The stalling can be a bad MAF.

My mechanic cleaned the MAF, the car ran better for a little bit...but now the RPM drops even on drive, which it never did before...maybe it's time for a new maf? i never thought about the motor mounts..do they make a whinning noise when car is turned off?

thanks

Cleaning the MAF will not fix it.

I am not positive but I think it's the motor mounts that make the noise. It should only last a few seconds right after the car it turned off.

i will tell the mechanic to replace the maf...and yes the noise only last about 2 or 3 secs..after the car is shut off..so the mounts need to be replaced?

Every tech thread a read- someone is saying--replace your maf or "I just replaced my maf, that wasn't it). - I'm still not able to start a new thead, awaiting activation or something..tick tock.....Anyway's there is a way to test your maf before just throwing money at it. There are probably--(at least on all mafs ive seen) 4 wires coming from maf. One is a power wire, one power ground, one signal, and one signal ground.(If my memory serves me correctly) I'm sure it's posted here somewhere how to check the maf signal with a voltmeter before replacing. Do some searches, I honestly wouldn't replace something knowing it's probably not the cause......
....Maybe I'm making the parts suppliers/moderators mad in here and their not activating my nic????

We speak from experience. When you've been here awhile, you can question the wisdom of the other 5,000 victims of crappy Maxima MAFs.
