Car all of the sudden begins to bump in muffler

My car is a 95 Nissan Maxima SE.

I was driving home today afer an interview and a stop light I felt my car start to bump (like a shivering sense) and when I would let go off the brake it would in a sense bump or bounce forward.

When I got home I got out of the car and looked at the hood and the engine seemed to be somewhat bouncing (like lightly moving more than normal) as well as the muflee. the mufler was bouncing air out.

what is causing this and how serious is this?

Sounds like it could be your motor mounts...

1. Open bonnet of your car so you can see engine when in drivers seat
2. In Drive with your foot on the brake rev the engine a bit
3. Watch how much your engine shifts.. if its a lot, its your mounts

No... i don't think this is motor mounts (though they MAY be bad...) if my understanding of his english is correct.
what he is saying is that the engine is vibrating hard and the exhaust is sputtering.
he has a misfire.

on the on motor mounts..

That wouldn't cause sputtering or put put from exhaust.

What's a bonnet and how would you be able to see the engine while sitting in the car?

Yes vibrating is a better word. The engine seems to be vibrating more than normal and the muffler as well. It aslo puting out exhaust in short puffs.

What is misfire? Is it bad? How much is it to fix?
Is it safe to drive and how did it occur?

is it a rattling noise? i have the same problem, its the muffler

put the car in DRIVE on a hill or something, pull up the handbrake, or let one of your friends sit inside and hold the brake while the car is in drive

go to the back of your car and youll hear the muffler rattle

I will go see if I hear rattling noise, but my muffler is brand new. Not even 5 months old yet.

could it be the pipes leading up to the muffler?

It didnt seem to be much rattling. The muffler was just pumping out colored exhaust in puffs. The engine is rattling also.

What causes a misfire? Is it xpensive to repair?
What is the coil packs?

Is it safe to drive?

wait a minute... colored exhaust... you said nothing about this earlier! .. is it blue?
and did it used to do this?

Is the car shaking more than normal?
if it is you have a misfire most likely, although this colored exhaust might mean you're burning oil... which is bad

also... do you have any codes?! I can't believe no one has asked yet... if it's misfiring you should have a check engine light.
or at least something stored with no light.
go check! all you need is a screw driver!

The car is indeed shaking more.

What exactly is a misfire?
And is it expensive to fix?

Ok I tried to get those 2 "pop in" black screws out but I cant. I bent the hell out of one of them. I dont wantt o damage anything trying to get them out. I stuck the flat head in there and treid prying it out but no luck.

When I turn off the car I notice it goes "shhhuch" and then a little later does the sound again.

ECU sticky

If one cylinder is misfiring the problem is spark or fuel. A misfire due to a spark problem usually results in a Service Engine Soon light
