Read this before but Silverstars Suck!!!!k

I have bought my last f'n Silverstar lightbulb ever. At first I was having great success with them, I kept reading about everyone else having to replace them so often. Well, in the last 3 months, I've had two headlight and 1 fog light bulb blow. None of them were over 4 months old. I am done with these fu**in bulbs. They are over-priced and do not last. I am going back to PIAA's. They cost more upfront but last forever.

lol. i was done when my first set went out in 4 months. out put is great while it lasts tho, just do the 9007 conversion, they're so much better than 9004. or if you really have some dough to throw around, some projectors.

Silverstars have been in my I30 for over a year, bulbs are great way cheaper than HID. $20 compared to $300 Silverstar is the best regular bulb out there for the price.

Silverstars are crap.....very few have lasted long, if that. My Nokya 9007 Arctic White Stage II (over-wattage) have lasted me almost 2 years now. Of course I upgraded the headlight harness to bigger gauged wires and double grounded the bulbs. Its funny cuz I wanted these Nokyas to blow four months into it, I wanted to switch to the Xtravisions. But the Nokya bulbs turned out to have exceeded any expectations.

Anyhow, this is what the Nokyas look like at night...its pure white.

I think the Silverstars suck too. I had them in my fogs and used latex gloves to install them to be sure I didn't touch them with my bare fingers. The SOB's still blew in 4 months!!! Sylvania Xtravisions are the way to go. Any bulb with a blue coating or blue tip will have reduced light output and shorter life expectancy. They just look pretty. Also a blue coated bulb has poor visibility on wet roads. I'm telling you man, go get some of the above mentioned bulbs, you won't be disappointed. $20. at Wally world. ( Walmart ).

c'mon guys, even sylvania themselves published a short life span on the silverstars. they are way over priced and last as long as a ricer bulb.

wow im surprised to see so many people with burned out bulbs ... ive had mine for almost a year and never had a problem...I have them in my fogs, headlights and corners ... nice and bright for a stock bulb size ... remember you cant touch the blub itself when you put it in, if the grease from your fingers gets on the bulb, when the bulb heats up itll burn out or explode....also they are halogen bulbs, any moisture will blow or burn them as well .. id be very surprised if one of my silverstars burned out in the future

Don't be surprised, they will blow out and sooner than a lot of the other halogens simply because their life expectancy is shorter than other bulbs. Go to the Sylvania website and see for yourself. Compare that stat to the Xtravision or other non-blue-coated halogen bulbs. I'm even surprised my Nokya is still going strong going on its 2nd year almost. I wanted it to burn a long time ago.

I wrote this post after a night of drinking and thought I deleted it for fear of my tongue and mood. I did the 9007 upgrade along with the harness but didn't like the extra 10 watts it pulled. As a result, my stereo would hit and dim the lights. I had success with the SS for just under two years until recently. I've gotten to the point where I don't want to spend another dime on this car. I am going to get the 9004 Xtravisions and then, when the SS fog's go, I'll replace them with Xtravisions if they make an H3 bulb. Projectors are out of the question for me but I am envious of those who've done it. I just had to rant that night.

silverstars data...
9004 low beam: 150 hours
9007 low beam: 150 hours
H3: 100 hours

If you use the crap out your bulbs (drive at night all the time) they won't last. What's with all the complaining? They post the numbers on the site just do the math and you'll find out how long your bulbs will last.

The filament is pushed to its limit to overcome the tint to have a functional bulb that looks cool

Others throw in more watts to overcome the tint.

I say just go with xtravisions and be done with it if you want more light. No modifications required (any modifications to your headlights are illegal anyway). Ever car that I've seen with hid's on a car that doesn't come with hid's are annoying as hell.

There should be a sticky on headlights since this topic comes up every 1/2 hour

DRLs run at half wattage. The bulbs shouldn't blow as fast as a lowbeam or fog bulb.

I think the issue is that Silverstar bulbs probably have declined in quality over the years.

I would have to agree with the silverstar's being bad on wet roads. I have had them for almost a year and every time it is raining I always state that I am going to replace them. But, since they haven't blown yet, I think I will keep them til it happens and then replace them with something other than silverstars.

The Xtravisions are the best 9004 bulb out there right now. They are not real white, but they're very bright, I get flashed all the time. Visibility on wet roads is excellent!!! I love these bulbs. Best I've had so far. I just took my Piaa Extreme White Plus bulbs out that I paid $46. for, because of the horse$hit light output. Hmmmm, a bulb that's half the $$$$, better.... Go figure.

Basically, any halogen bulb that claims to put out pure or extreme white is coated with a blue tint one way or another. Blue coated bulbs just don't put out enough light no matter how many wattage it has. Only HID's can perform satisfactorily, in this case. I vote for Xtravisions as well. And I'm wondering when my Nokya will burn out.

I think I posted the same thing I'm about to post in a similar thread a couple of months ago....

I put Silverstars in my 95 SE's headlights and foglights when I got the car three and a half years ago... the first one (one of the fogs) died about five months ago, the other three are still alive and kicking. I don't know that I'll use them again, since I'm thinking about doing the 9007 conversion, but for the low price I paid for 3 years of life, I'm more than happy with the ones I got.

Everybody else seems to hate them, though, so maybe I just got really lucky.
