Problem starting with 5 spd.

Hi guys since last week, when i go to start my car, i hear a grinding noise and the car won't start. The sound is similar to the sound that your car makes when you try and start your car when it is already started. I always make sure to put in Neutral and press my clutch all the way in but yet it still makes this noise and the car won't start. After a few tried and the noise still doing this, it will randomly start. Any feedback??

Either your starter motor is dying (most likely) or the teeth on the flywheel/starter motor are chipped. Unbolt starter and inspect teeth.. if they look okay chances are its replacement time for the starter

try regreasing the starter, when you pull it out you should be able to check the teeth on the starter and flywheel, if they are good, you know you just need a regrease. If the regrease doesn't work, the solenoid is going out.

It's more than likely the solenoid. Mine completely died on me yesterday. I was having the same problems as you and it turned out to be the starter solenoid. Had it replaced in an hour and a half. Car now starts right up.

Had a chance to install the new starter?

I have had the same problem for a couple months now. Sometimes it grinds when I try to start it...and other times it starts just fine. Since the weather has gotten colder, I noticed the problem to happen more offten.

Umm, if your mechanic inspected the flywheel and found broken / chipped gear teeth then a new starter won't help. Do you know how the starter works? It's a 12v motor that spins a gear which, in turn, spins the flywheel to turn the engine over. If the flywheel gear is broken then the starter cannot act on it.

Unless you think your mechanic is lying to you the starter is not your problem.
