ticking noise

i have a very noticable ticking noise coming from the motor in my car. i know that it is the valve but i am looking for a cheeper real fix. it was estimated at 1400 over at the nissan dealership, any ideas?

Assuming that you have a 93 SE model, it has the VE30DE engine. Please check the "sticky" post at the top for information on VTC failure, as well as a cheap fix for it.
