Do you start your car right away when you put your key in ignition or you wait till the beeping sound stops?

I always turn the ignition then wait till the beeping sound stops then start the engine. Is there any difference if I wait or not?

 

I used to wait, now I've gotten in the habit of just starting. I can't imagine there being any harm, but who knows.

 

Umm,

I believe the beeping sound is merely reminding you to put on your seatbelt and not some kind of timer you have to wait for before you start the car.

Just turn it and go my friend.

Yes the beeper is for the seatbelt. I unhooked that beeper a long time ago. I was tired of all the unnecessary beeping.

 

I just start it right away....won't hurt anything.

Some will recommend waiting a few seconds to let the fuel pressure build. This is a myth. Fuel pressure peaks almost instantaneously and drops down within seconds so will actually be lower if you wait. You are best to just turn the key and start her up.

 

I usually turn to ACC/fuel pump prime or whatever then start it about a second later. The reason I do that isn't so much the fuel but the way the key feels in the ignition. Sometimes it's like butter, other times it doesn't feel so smooth so I just use the hesitation method and it feels the same every time.

 

I find that sometimes if I try to start the car immediately, the car won't start sometimes. I just wait a second or 2 to get the battery started....Probably not useful...But I like the way it sounds when I start it up this way

 

did you disconnect the wire that passes under the seat and comes up to the belt pin, and wont that disable the seat belt light on the dash?

 

I actually disconnected the beeper itself. I didn't want it to beep for anything, seatbelt, keys in ignition, or lights on. I now remember a long time ago when I had my gauge cluster out, I just took the seat belt light bulb out too. I know it's a bad habit, but only seem to wear my seatbelt when I'm about to get into a race.

I have also heard you can just disconnect it and the light will go away.

 

Mishmosh, why/how does the fuel pressure drops if I wait? I would think it would rise until the pump stopped and then remain constant.

My previous car wouldn't start unless I waited until the pump stopped (~1 second), so I habitually wait. But it's not necessary.

I turn to acc and wait for the ECU check to 'click', and the fuel lines to fill, and then I crank.

 

are you suppose to do that or is it just your habbit, because i usually just crank it up rigth away

 

i woulda never thought to wait, but i do...if i turn to crank right away, my check engine light comes on...if i wait 2-3 secs it doesnt...i have no idea why this is (i assume its something in my ignition, or a timing thing in the ECM)...anyway, i remote start all the time, and that sequence has a 2-3 sec pause in it so the check engine light doesnt come on...anyone else ever heard of something like that?

 

All the warning lights should light up and waiting doesnt help anything..... just crank and go.. and thats a bad habbit to not be wearing a seat belt man.... good luck if you get in a crash.. but by not wearing the belt your just asking for it... but ya no reason to wait doesnt help nor harm anything....

but then you cant be a thug if you wear your seatbelt. LoL I forgot what comedian said it but it was kinda just like "these white kids want to be a gangsta, but when they roll down the block you see them with a seatbelt on blasting gangsta rap" or something like that.

oh ya back on topic I wait a like 2-3 seconds turn it to acc hear it clicks then start.

 

I can't speak for other cars but on our cars, turning the ignition to acc or straight to start will cause the fuel pump to spike to a max (IIRC) of 42 (for starting) for 1-3 seconds and then will settle to a steady state of 38. It does not gradually build up and reach maximum as some have suggested. Because the fuel lines are already filled with fuel, the fuel pump develops pressure almost instantaneously.

 

I wait just a bit, i put my remote starter on a 3 second wait to start delay.

 

The only time I give it time for fuel pressure to rise is when I've been working on the car (i.e, fuel filter changeout). Other than that, it's not necessary.

it doesnt make a difference the gas doesnt spray until you start to crank it anyway.

 

Dude its not a deisel... Fire that baby up. That is if it will... seems like everyone has the crank starting problem.

 

You guys are making something out of nothing. Just put the key in and start it.

 

Car makers know that 99% of people will alwasy just turn the key. I am sure this is incorporated into the engineering. I have never seen anybody wait.

 

The beeping stops quicker if you don't wait.

I wait to turn my key all of the way so the glo plugs warm up.

 

.. i liek that little noise... sounds liek something important is turning on... or powering up.. then again .. i like start trek.. so...
