98 Maxima won't Start

Car started to lose power and I went into the store and came back out and it would not start. Mechanic told me it was the timing belt. These cars have timing chains. Anybody have any idea what this could be?

That would be weird for a timing chain to go on a 99 unless you got like 300k miles on hard driving. Run as far away from that mechanic as possible.

Sounds like a fuel problem to me.

check your battery first if you didnt already. Could be possible that your battery is dead and your alternator is messed up a bit or the belt is gone for it?
