Mine does not! I am going to play with it tomorrow(Tuesday) to see if I can fix it. Any ideals how to fix it before I try?
Thanks Jon

Get some graphite from a local auto parts store and spray it in there to lube the lock up. The lock may be messed up from the inside.

I need to try that because my trunk lock and my passenger door lock stick on occasion.

My key wouldn't open the trunk until last night, when I kept spraying wd-40 in it and jiggling the key around. Now it works most of the time, it just takes a while.

Speaking of trunks.. Ive had my max for almost 2 years and Ive been using the keyless entry to open the trunk.. a couple weeks ago I finally got the book out and looked up the trunk release, thats the only car I've seen that has the release under the arm rest!

ps. its not that I was too lazy to look it up, I just preferred to impress my friends with the BEEP BOOP BEEP BEEP! sounds

if you got the car used make sure you key is not a copy of the valet key..if you can't open the glove box too then you have the valet key.

ahh.. havent used that thing in a long time. still works, but now with remote entry it makes it soo much easier. 40 buck and i can unlock my doors and open the trunk and put down my drivers window from a football field away. pretty cool.

I guess we have a new common fault on our maximas... My trunk lock worked for the first year I had the car and after the first six months, I had to jiggle the key to get it to work. Now, the damn thing doesnt work at all. The key goes in, but doesnt turn... Also, does anyone know exactly how to get the trunk light to work?!? Mines been out for 6 months now and I cant find the switch that turns it off and on. Its friggin dark in there!!

Fixed

I got my trunk lock to work! I first sprayed WD40 on the key hole then took some of the trunk lid lining off so I can get to the back of the key hole and back of release latch then sprayed it down with WD40. I played with the key in the key hole and BAMM IT WORK!! I also sprayed WD40 on the key. Man 5-10 minutes of work solved this promblem

My trunk has always been kind, but the biggest prob was when I was with my girlfriend in a large town about 100 miles from home watching a movie and shopping. I came outside, went to my car and unlocked it, stuck the key in the trunk lock and the darn thing borke off in the lock!!! The friggin' original. I pulled the key out and had to take the inside panel off of the trunk, take the lock out of the trunk lid, and remove the other part of the key with a set of needle nosed pliars. Then, I had to put everything back (the little door flap isn't there anymore ) and take a cab to a Nissan dealership for them to cut me a key. Needless to say. I have 5 copies of that key now. I keep one in my wallet and one in the armrest just in case.

yea duud, i had the same prob. the light switch is conencted right on to the main latch itself on the trunk LID. so if you take the carpet off arounf the latch thing, you can look and see a small rectangle thing with two wires going to it. thats it, and mine i guess died. but interesting enough we tested the wires and it looked like they also freyed or somehting, maybe from wear and tear. so we ran new wires going from the trunk switch to the lights, and i had to buy a new latch from someone (i paid 15 bucks) (try matt93gxe, he probably has one for you) and just switch it with yours. i think the switches wear out or something, and just dont work anymore. its a pain in the *** not havin light in there!

Same problem here. I took it to a locksmith and after about an hour of messing with it...the just cut me some new keys. The key I had, the teeth were all worn down and it was hittin what it needed to. They said some of the locks were in pretty bad shape, probably because of the keyless entry.

btw...the trunk release doesnt work on my keyless entry...its a Code Alarm Keyless Entry w/o the alarm.
