Question on 300zx tt bbk kit

ok i got my rotors today and was looking at the placement of the caliper versus the rotors and it doesnt match up perfect. what that means is that there is about 2mm of brake pad that isnt used. am i correct? or is there something to do so that all of the pad is against the rotor.

The pads are not big enough to cover the whole rotor, = bigger rotors but not bigger pads. Did you get nickel plated rotors?

From my domain:

You can see my nickel plating thats left on my rotor from where the pad doesn't make contact

it is not the pad but the caliper. the caliper is not big enough for the rotor.

i have the 13 inch cobra rotors with 300zx tt calipers. the pad is the perfect size but the caliper cannot accomidate the huge rotor. thats one thing that was never mentioned.

maxrb8
how is pad wear? i am guessing not the whole pad right?

i think i see what ur saying that the radius of the rotor is bigger than the calipers radius and dosnt quite conform to the rotors curve...the think i would be concerned about is if it creates a lip where the pad isnt touching the rotor

You are correct, same thing happened to me with both 300zx calipers and stock calipers modded to fit 13" rotors. That part of the pad just won't wear down. Didn't cause any ill-effects.

Milling is only required on the 300ZX rotors which are used without Jeff92se's relocation bracket, so you and up with a rotor smaller than the stock Maxima, that just wasn't an option for me, not only did I want superior braking I also wanted a filled in look with 18" wheels and 10.6" rotors it just looked dumb. When you use the bracket it mates up to the 13" cobra rotor so there is no milling required.

As far as I know all my pad is being worn down the same, Jeff92se would know more about this, but I did notice when I got my 300ZX calipers they came loaded with warn out pads and one pad on one side had an unworn lip and these came directly off a 300ZX TT with stock rotors!!!!!!!!

Mattblehm sells a kit that uses the 12.6" Maxima rotor (2003 rotor I think) and Jeff92se sells the brackets and hub centric rings for the cobra 13" conversion but doesn't sell a whole kit. You absolutely have to have the hub rings with the cobra rotors. I also bought SS brake lines from Mattblehm, best price by far on those.

Looking for an answer to what? The 300ZX caliper is designed for an 11" diameter rotor and you are using it with a 13" diameter rotor. It's physically impossible to get to get the outside edges to match up exactly unless you reshaped the 300zx caliper (impossible) , or mill your 13" rotor down to 11" (retarded). It's simple geometry.
