Buying a rebuildable/crashed car??

Does anyone think this is rebuildable?? How much $$ would it take to get this back on the road?? Would it be worth it?

Are you effin' kidding me????????? Even if you were in the body business, they wouldn't touch this with a 10000000000000ft pole.

Wow.... and they still want at least $2K for it. That car will NEVER drive like it used to.

Actually there is a shop here in Austin that could fix that. You would probably end up paying what it would cost to buy a mint i30 if not more though.

you're looking at rear quarter panel, trunk floor pan, bumper, trunk lid, light, and repaint 1/2 of the car. It is at least 8K in damages, but the car itself with such high miles and its age is really not worth it. The owner can drive it in his *** **** is lying, I bet the rear tire is rubbing against the metal.

Looks like the rear pillar is bent along with some of the roof. He probably messed up some of the suspension also. So add unibody time and parts.

Don't quite know how he can say he drove it. The RR tire is blown off the rim. The only reason it has a clear title is he never reported the accident to insurance/DOL etc...

There's more like $10k in damage there.

Not quite sure on that. Engine and the auto might be worth $600 for both? Then one would have to sell every piece of good sheet metal and the entire interior for $1400 just to break even. Suspension parts aren't worth much. If he broke even for $2 grand I'd be suprised. Plus you get the enjoyment of all those cold, rainy and greasy days/nights taking all the crap off, packing and shipping it.

I'll pass

same thing as what Jeff said though, anyone can fix crap, but there is a point where it is not worth it.

of course it will drive. i don't see any drivetrain damage..

if you can get yourself the rear section of the unibody you can fix it. (sic)

Seeing as it's FWD and no front end damage, I would hope you couldn't see any drivetrain damage

You guys are funny. We fix/have fixed cars like that all the time here, check out www.43auto.com I drive a car hit equally hard but in the front (99 Altima, scroll to the bottom of the above link for pics) and have bought, fixed, driven and sold many others just like it. It's very popular around here.

We keep about 100 in stock at all times and have been in business for 27 years!

hahahahahah!

Nope, I paid about 1200$ then about 2000$ for parts and about 1800$ for labor. Total of about $5k with only 59K, will sell for about $6k after I've driven it for about 10K miles! This is how I do all my cars (except my S14, bought it at auction), you can't beat making money and always driving a different car.

I usually do the labor myself if possible then subcontract the paint work out. I primarily build Lexus' and Infiniti's, etc. but did a Max a while back, next up is a 2000 G20 with 58K miles, light hit in the RH front, will have about $5k invested, sell for about $8.5K.

It's a fine way to make money and if your an honest person the car will be 100% safe and reliable when your done.

ok you're talking low mileage...the car in the auction is rocking over 100K miles on it and the owner is still asking for $2k.

True, $2k might be a little much for those miles.

I do try to stick to the low mileage cars when possible but have recently sold a 170K mile rebuilt LS400!

ouch, you'll need the rear section of another car and then weld the two unibodies together.
