vq35 17 deg. timing advance gains....

looking to find out the gains from advancing the timing to 17 degrees on my 5.5 gen vq35, anyone have some rough numbers or dyno sheets? thanks

Someone posted this in the Other Cars section, but it wasn't done a Maxima VQ35, though. Regardless, the gain was minimal...a difference of 3WHP which could've just been attributed to a difference in conditions outside. Plus, timing advance seems to be pretty ho-hum on VQ35s. It's especially punchy and noticeable on VQ30DE-Ks only.

Who knows, I have a dyno w/ GAB and a separate one with POP intake and 17* .. but who knows what the difference is when changing from GAB --> POP.

So...it's not really a good comparison.

The timing advance won't add any peak power because it's not in effect after around 2300 RPM.

That seems to be the common consensus. I would imagine timing advance to only be a way to regain some of that low-end that mysteriously tapers off after certain mods (exhaust, and some intakes).

consult II at your local nissan dealer; they can charge you anywhere from $0-$150 ($150 being what they were going to charge me )

You need a 2000 and up ECU to be able to do this. The options that availiable to 4G's are JWT ECU, TS, ECU, piggyback such as SMT-6/7 and/or e-manage ultimate, or you can advance your timing indirectly via a S-AFCI-II/V-AFCI-II

With bigger injectors and a FPR.

Just wanted to complete that statement.

Well in this case it's bigger injectors OR FPR since you only need one of them to increase fuel flow.

It's impossible for timing advance to increase peak numbers since it doesn't change the timing above 2300 RPM. And we all know about intakes so i'm as to how there's such a large gap between the two dyno's.

maybe the conditions on the day of the dyno were way different...

were you using a different octane fuel? new air filter, spark plugs, fuel filter, etc.?

Hmm, typically y-pipes add 8-12whp on an A33B.. so that would put you at one of, if not the highest stock #'s on here..

Also, comparing our dynos, you're 6MT, and I'm auto ... also, I only got 211 w/headers only. ... But Still outpower you 6K+ .:IBpissingcontest:.

Yup, still puzzles me to this day. What's amazing is the area under the curve that's added. Check this forum, all my dynos are scattered in a few threads.

I gained 9 from GAB ( same day/hour) but I'm still not saying the POP/GAB is Gods gift, only that it does show a difference, whether GAB or POP.

Days were similar. I can send you the run files. Everything's the same except for the tests being done on different days(important factor), and what has been mentioned (POP & 17*).

not meant to be a pissing contest at all.AMGE55 or whatever his name is said he gained 33WHP from headers alone. i dont know if he was 6spd or auto. but i dont know why you only got 211 with only headers, i seen dynos, yes 6spds with intake that did that. so i dunno i need to get my HS headers on and Vafc-II in and see whats up...
