Is an upgraded swaybar on a SL worth it?

I am interested in the cattman RSB but with my SL being set up for a smoother ride vice sporty ride with the SE is upgrading the RSB for me worth it?

well, guess that depends if you drive to like an SL or an SE. Only difference I recall seeing between the 2 suspensions is the wheel/tire size.

If you take turns slow, why get one?
If you take them a bit fast, you'll notice a difference.
IMHO

SE Suspension vs. SL Suspension

The dealer told me that the suspension for the most part is different between the SL and SE. They told me the SE has a stiffer and tighter suspension and will be a rougher ride and that the SL has a smoother and softer suspension for a more comfortable ride. Also the other difference is obviously the wheels. I have an SL and I love the ride but I drive it like an SE and I am also considering purchasing a sway bar for the front, probably the stillen. From what I know, the sway bar would make a dramatic difference in the cornering of the car whether SE or SL and will not affect the comfortability of the ride. So you will still maintain the smoothness of the SL because you are not changing any of the suspension components.

I always believed that the main difference was the stiffness of the springs (and of course the wheels) I knew I would end up dropping it anyways so I wasn't to concerned with having an SL. Greg are you planning on lowering or just adding the RSB?

There are no front sway bars made by Stillen or any other company from what I recall.

I was not planning on lowering the car, just doing the sway bar.

I think like it was said, it depends on how you intend to drive the car... SL or SE, if you're driving like grandma then it won't matter. If you drive the car like a Maxima then it's a VERY good investment for the money.

I got a sway bar on my SL a while back, and it's worth every penny.

SO you could feel the difference and how bad was the swap?

Strut Bar Install?

How hard is the install of a front strut bar? I heard that you need to shave off the top of the manifold in order for it to properly fit over it....

Front strut bar and front sway bar are two completely different things.

Stillen front strut bar is slightly adjustable, plastic covers have to be modified a little. You don't have to shve off the manifold.

You can definitely feel the difference... under the right circumstances. I do a lot of highway driving, and there are a few off ramps that I can tell you feel completely different now with the sway bar on.

As far as the swap, it's easy enough that I know people that have done it themselves. I think all you need is the right tools and ramps (or jack stands). I had mine done by Jeff when I took the car in for the y-pipe, since they were gonna put it on the lift anyway. Took them like 3 minutes.

Absolutely! I love the SLs smooth ride. I am only 24 and I can withstand a rough ride (I did it for many years in my 95 max) but I still prefer the luxorous ride even though I drive it very aggressively. I cant wait to get the FSB

I could be wrong, but I know there was at least one loooong thread discussing this, to the point that people crawled under their cars to get part numbers. In the end the SL and SE use the same parts, and the only obvious difference was the wheels and like someone mentioned probably the spring rate. Other than that, the suspensions are identical IIRC.

Killah,

Im right there with you, Im only 19 and I love the way the maxima performs with the soft suspension...

Viguera,

If that's true, then that really sucks, because the salesman really sold me on that idea of the SL and the SE have different suspension set ups.. If I knew that they were the same parts then I would have saved the $2,000 extra for the SL and picked up some big rims... just my spiel...

Front strut tower bar bolts on to the two strut mounts in the engine bay, easy to install. Front anti-sway bar connects to the front end links which is connected to the struts, not as easy to install and none available for our cars.

greg,

I received my RSB today (after a bunch of mix ups..) but my say on this add-on, is 100% YES. The car handles noticably better on turns. I highly recommend it!

so does the swaybar change the overall ride of the car. i know that on solid axle cars it makes a total difference in ride quality. does the sl still ride like an sl or does it have a harsher ride to it now

i've had mine on my SL for about a month - it's the exact same ride going in a straight line - just as smooth as ever - however when cornering now - it hugs the road a lot more and seems more responsive - much more fun to take sharp corners now - it still has a little bit of bodyroll but a WHOLE lot less
