exhaust question
exhaust question
my wife has given me the okay to spend 2000 on the maxima has long has i dont mess it up and make it crazy. so i want to do a full exhaust. headers, y pipe and catback i guess. (not famailiar with nissan terms) i guess that i have to go greedy because i see nothing else has a kit. the one that i did find was about 1500 that was for the heders and cat back and the y pipe is 300 so that takes care of the 2000. do I need to have the car remapped or anything if i add a total exhaust system and will the fuel economy fall way off. im a mustang man so i know nothing about the maximas. i have to order everything now before the wife changes her mind. the car will be here in february and im going on leave in march so i want to install everything then before i comeback to iraq. any help will be greatly appreciated and sorry for an exhaust question but i have read all the pages in the forum and the help section in the beginning. oh do i need header? dont know much about maximas but i know that ford does. would love to put the 650 that they cost somewhere else
Man, I wish my wife was that understanding! I got grief because I bought a used Y pipe and Injen CAI for mine. From what I have read the catback is a very free flowing exhaust, when I put the Y pipe from CE next to the stock one there was a visible difference in the construction, so I think that at least is a worhty mod. I am a prior mustang guy also (03 Cobra) and can't leave any car alone!
in my opinion i don't think you need headers. The maxima is not a hotrod it is a fullsize sadan on steroids. The catback should be enough if you are looking for a good exhaust note. I think the headers, ypipe and catback will make the car loud as if it was a sports car or rice burner. I would spend the rest of the money on other things. Just my .02
cattman has a exhaust also. you should check it out. deus says it is really nice. Where are you getting headers though???? they haven't came out with any for the 6th gen that i know of and the same for rest of the board. headers so far have to be custom of the 5th gen headers. let us know the goodies
I dont think you need headers, but thats your choice, if you do reaplace it and get the hole exhaust greedy and catback are ok but I went with custom exhaust this time and im feeling the steady vrrrrommm and the look is different from others and saved some money.. oh and if you change the headers u will experience more torgue and hp.

i called 2Kracing.com (well the number from their site 1 818 344 4410) the guy that i talked to said that the 05 and 06 are the same and that they had a set made by a company named hot shot. i also checked with horsepowerfreaks.com but they weren't to sure i think all he knew was if the comp had a part number it would fit and it didnt then it wouldnt work. i have a friend of mine that makes custom headers. he told me to just buy the catback and y pipe and bring in the car and he could take the stock headers off and make a set for the price of the tubing and a case of beer. he does excellent work has done quite a few vehicles for me. my biggest concern is does the car need to be retuned and what am i looking at economy wise. all of the cars that i have worked with have always been v-8's. i know that has you change exhaust if you go to big and not enough back pressure you actually lose horsepower. was just trying to get a distinct sound for my max thats all. most of the time when you go with a quality exhaust system the sound gets deeper. when you buy cheap big mufflers thats when the ricer sound starts to come in. didnt know about cattman though thanks smokedoutmaxi. im just looking for a nice sound thats all im not trying to race the car (but im sure that ill mash on it every now and then. the first thing i do to every vehicle that i have is change the exhaust. i had a chevy chevette for my first car with a flowmaster and header. it was very slow but sound like you were going fast lol thanks for all the responses im going to check out cattman and compare to greddy ( although greddy seems hard to get and on the pricey side but hey i have to spend the money before my wife changes her mind and start thinking about rims or something)
maxed out when you say custom exhaust? is that the company or you just did your own. i also had an idea of finding two muffler like flowmasters delta 40 series and have them installed on the car in the location of the stock ones and change the ypipe but i want to make sure that i dont mess up the back end of the car and that it keeps the stock appearing look with the exhaust.
Im getting two magnaflows installed this weekend. they are removing the resonator and installing new pipes. Price is estimated around 250-300. Did not feel like paying 800 for the catt man.
Ill post pics up when its finished

thanks i might take you up on that offer. trying to figure out what to do. i have a few companies that make cat back but im thinking of just doing my own thing. what i really need to know is does the car need to be retuned or anything that is weighing heavily on my options. has for what can my friend do. he works at a muffler shop and specializes in custom exhaust. whatever you like he can do all he needs is the car and the size tubing you want ran. he made a header for a friend of mine. porsche 944 in the magazine they wanted like 675 made it for him in about 3 hrs charged him 200. sent the header off and had it coated by jet hot for 75. header is much nicer and cleaner made then the ones in the magazines.
for real??? thats tight man... help us out and see if he can make them a couple. Alot of people on the board have been waiting on some headers for our 6th gens. the hot shot guyz really haven't gotten back to us on the header. they weren't really sure about it. well let everyone know what you can do on them headers. it would greatly be appreciated
