I am planning on getting the Bilstien engine flush done tomorrow at a Lincoln mercury dealership. My question is, since I am going to synthetic oil should I look into or just go ahead and replace the oils seals on the engine? Also, I live in Texas and the weather will drop below 0 degrees maybe a week or two out of the year. Should I be running 10-30w or 15-50w mobil 1, or maybe something different altogether? I don't know. I have a fram x2 oil filter but I will probably take it back for a mobil 1 or K&N. Please help. What works, what is recomended? I don't want any unexpected leaks and won't mind paying alittle extra, but I don't know what to expect.

Ah which oil seals? There are only about 20-30 of them.

The ones that usually leak are the front crank seal(which is replacable fairly easy) and the rear crank seal(which is a ***** becuase the tranny has to come off)

Don't replace the oil seals UNLESS you are having consumption problems. If not, don't sweat it.

PLEASE give that dealership 5W-30 or 10W-30 Mobile 1; I would recommend against 15W-50.

Based on Fram's reputation for poor quality filters, I would return the Fram filter and get a Mobile 1....M1-208 for the VG motor IIRC. A Purolator filter would work as well.

And expect a happy Max!

How much will that flush cost you? How many miles on your engine?

The guy I talked to said that the flush is going to be about $100 to $110. I have about 117,500 miles. I am really hoping I don't have any suprise leaks. I will let you know how it goes.

Have you ever put anything else besides engine oil in your crankcase?

I haven't put any thing in the crank case. If I had some more time I might have. I think the flush will do a pretty descent job itself.

Recently (my last oil change) I added a full quart of MMO.
After 400 miles the oil has turn a little brown meaning that it has dissolved some gum, varnish etc. When I change it next, I will let you know what happens.

However, if your flush goes well, I may be the next one in line getting it done.

This past week I switched to syn. oil. I first did an STP motor flush for 10min.

I'd reccomend using 10w-30 in the summer and 5w-30 in the winter.
