I assume the fix is as easy as replacing the timing chain tensioner?

I to have that same problem, it some times worries me. Right now I'am in the process of changing the chain, tensioner, and water pump.

I have 43 K miles on my O4 (bought in May of 03) and have not heard the timing chain at all. Nissan appears to have fixed the problem that causes premature failure in earlier VQ engines.

I run with Mobil 1 at 10W30 weight and change oil every 7,500 miles. Many of the miles on my Max are highway miles spent cruising the interstate highways at 2,800 to 3,000 RPMs for hours at a time. This (relatively speaking) is fairly easy service for an engine when compared to stop and go city driving. So others may see timing chain problems earlier than I expect to see them.
