HELP! Screw holding tranny sensor broke!

I was starting to do my tranny fluid change just now on my 5 speed, and was going to remove the fluid through the tranny sensor. I went to unbolt the screw and it snapped along with a piece of the sensor around the screw. Now I have the remains of the bolt stuck in hole of the tranny and the sensor is still stuck in the whole. What can I do???

I am thinking of drilling in a new screw, using a washer around this screw to hold the remains of the sensor in. Good idea?

You need to get a tap and die set and tap the broken bolt to get it out. Other than that you can have it towed to a mechanic or pay one to come out and do it.

I assume you mean the reverse position sensor? My friend broke the same bolt. What you need is an easy-out, its basically a reverse drill bit that will pull it out. My friend tried this but screwed up and couldnt get it out, he ended up sealing the sensor in there with hot glue and silicon and it never leaked.

The good news is that sensor doesn't like to come out regardless of whether the bolt is holding it in. If you can find a way to *securely* hold it in place and keep it from rotating, you can drive the car to a garage where they can fix it very quickly and cheaply. Heck that thing would probably hold in just fine without any bolt at all (it pops in securely with the o-ring), but that doesn't mean it's a good idea to drive it that way.
