Cat-back death

I just found out that my stock cat-back and muffler are wasted (a common occurance aparently), looking for suggestions from org members. I have a 97SE with a CAI and SS Budget-Y, will be keeping the original cat. Looking for something slightly louder than stock but with no drone or rice-a-roni tone. My questions:
- What is a good solution for something that bolts to a stock cat but is slightly louder than stock?
- For the cat-back, does stainless steel make a big difference (live in Oregon)?
- If you have a specific suggestion, do you know of a good place to purchase?
- Resonator, reccomended? Included with most cat-backs?

Thanks for the info, checked stickies but nothing addressed my questions directly. Thanks!

Heard good things about the Dynomax Turbo muffler, can't find a cat-back package though (checked JEGS.com, etc.)?

i have a feeling that stainless steel is nothing but a marketing ploy. Our stock exhaust stuff is all aluminum and generally lasts for 10 years.

no way does the factory catback last for anywhere close to 10 years in northern states that use salt in the winter. 6-7 years more likely

No it's not aluminum. And mine has lasted only 8 years.

Good stainless is very worthwhile, especially in the salt-spreading areas. But since my car already has 140k miles, I'm not sure it's worth spending $500 for a stainless SP2 when I need only another 100k out of it.

i guess you guys are right. It's aluminized steel. However, mine has lasted for 8+ years thus far in the salty northeast and i don't visually see anything wrong with it at the moment. I think it'll last a while longer.

What's aluminized steel?

From my limited experience - I would guess the stock cat-back is a 410 stainless.

I'm not an expert on this stuff, but I did some internet searching. WarpSpeed says that the stock system on our cars is aluminized steel: http://www.warpspeedperformance.com/faq.htm

A brief description of stainless vs. aluminized is here: http://www.cpes.peachnet.edu/tobacco/metals.htm

There's even more info in this PDF:
