Valentine ONE Consealed display gets HIDDEN

Valentine One Concealed Display

Put the Valentine One Main unit above my rear view mirror. I used the hardwire kit so there are no unsightly wires all over the place.

Can you spot the V1 Concealed Display?

Here it is!

I sacrificed my clock as you can see.....it's ok.. I have a clock on the headunit already. So far i'm loving this mod!

The hardwire kit is included with the Valentine One Radar detector.
I used this write up to hardwire the unit:
http://www.freestyleconcepts.com/v1.html

The concealed display is 39 bucks + tax from Valentine ONE. When you plug this unit in the main unit goes DARK.

Yeah so I took out the clock and threw the hidden display back there. I had to cut out the back part of the plastic part holding the clock (if you take apart your clock you'lll seee what i'm talking about). Otherwise, it looks pretty stock. DREMEL def. helps with this mod. I'll try to take some better pics....IT WAS SO DAMN COLD OUTSIDE!!!

If you have any questions PM me and I'll try to answer them.

isn't having a hidden display kind of pointless if the main unit is in clear view though?

...then again, I'm thinking as a Virginian - where of course radar detectors are illgal

You can't see it from the outside of the car because of the tint strip.
The write up i linked to, shows a picture of the car from the outside...the main unit is hidden from the front of the car. Not sure if you meant this or my next comment...

The point that valentine makes about the concealed display is that at night time people can't see the main unit's lights cause alll the alerts are re-routed to the concealed display which is usually mounted on top of the power plug that goes into the ou*** or some other discreet place.

gotcha...

here in Va., people who have radar detectors REALLY have to HIDE them....completely. Otherwise it's a fat ticket and your detector gets confiscated. I know people who have hidden the sensors in hood scoops, in the grille, etc and the display in the gauge cluster or ashtray

hahaha that's hardcore! Maybe they just shouldn't speed.
I think Escort actually makes one that you have to custom install..it's pretty cool. The display is a bunch of leds that you can mount in your dask to make it pretty stock looking.

the rear sensor from the v1 is halfway blocked( yes it still will work) i had mine the same way and found that i needed to mount it on the other side of the mirror and a little bit down

Nice,
thanks for using my writeup. Glad to see its being used for other maxima owners

btw, do you have the straight cord? Seems that you had the cig wire dangling from the detector. Other than that, NICE!!

How did you get to the clock? I might be doing that soon.

Andy

NO, thank YOU for the write up...it was EXTREMELY idiot proof.
The hardwire kit COMES witht he straight cord...and the concealed display comes with the straight cord also so you're set to go.
The clock actually just POPS OUT. when yuo pop it out you have to disconnect the plug for the clock then its free.
Then on the back you can see two screws where you unscrew them and then the clock is free. pretty easy to figure out...you just gotta dremel the back of the clock holder out after you unscrew it to squeeze the concealed display in there. I shuodl've took pics...bah..oh well. Since your'e the write up king you can take some pics. =)

depending on how dark your tint is you still might be able to see the alerts through the tint.

Its the same way in Australia, they will confiscate the detector and throw you in jail for the evening. Sounds a little harsh to me... Because the whole goal of a cop car in the median is to get you to slow down. If you have a radar detector installed, you slow down more quickly! Sounds perfectly acceptable to me.

Sup man. Glad the write up can help.

I won't be doing any mods in the coming future. I have a mortgage and a renovation to do on my place. Perhaps some time in the summer.

Btw, if you had the pics, i would add it to my site. But nevertheless, glad to help you out.

Andrew

1. The main unit is connected with a cord to the concealed unit. The directions on for the V1 is pretty self explanatory with the manual.

2. You just tuck the wires in on the pillar and run the wire flat across the headliner. check out my write up: www.freestyleconcepts.com/v1.html

I thought about the same

But ended just leaving the detector there with the cables routed along the trim.

Unless you get inside the car and look for it, nobody knows there is a detector there.

ooh nice! Yeah I checked it out! clean install! I did mine a little differently though....I still have the smoked plastic piece for the clock area to cover the display. He still has access to the MUTE button...but it's too far away anyways...might as well hit the mute button on the main unit above the rear view mirror. GOOD STUFF!

Irish, I'm in VA and have my V1 up high in the window. I was pulled over twice the same day for expired inspection (stupid me) and neither officer noticed the V1. It's very hard to see.
