ok..my car is currently sidelined w/ a fried tranny..i figured here is my chance to the 5spd swap i have been wanting to do since the first week of my purchase three years ago..ok..so i spoke to my mechanic..he tells me that i can to the swap but the ecu will have a SES light..obviously b/c its looking for the tranny..he tells me that if i were to swap out the ecu to a manual ecu the car wouldnt go past 3k rpm..ne body please help me i need an answer a.s.a.p.

Tell your mechanic to stfu because he doesn't know what he's talking about, most guys that do 5spd swaps end up putting in a 5spd ECU so they don't have a CEL, and their cars definately go past 3000rpm.

 

just do the swap and then throw out the tcm and the auto ecu and ut a 5spd ecu in there

 

It will show some Auto crap cells but it will not affect drive ability at all.

Mine definitely revs past 3000 grand. And I kept my ECU because it is chipped by TS.

 

Yes, it will have a CEL, but not affect driveability or performance in any way.

sit in my car and see if it rev's past 3k....auto ecu...manual feels exactly the same, but has no CEL's....i'm gonna get my manual ECU reprogrammed by TS, thats why it's not in the car.

I went to autozone to do a CEL check with my auto ECU just for fun...the guy saw 12 codes for Auto tranny related failures...he said "you gotta check your tranny, man"..I said..."really? drives fine to me.."

 

well apparently the problem with manual tranny swaps only occurs on 2k-2k1 maximas..i will get a little more info in a few days
