rear center thing

how do most people come about getting rid of theirs? are you just painting over them or are they taken off and then filled/painted? also whats a good way to black out the tailights, i think swowlinc had a post about it but without a search feature .. im boned.

take it to a shop, have them weld in a piece and make it all nice and smooth then paint to match, painting over the center piece isn't the best idea.

anyone know how much the cost of just the welding is? or a shop that does welding lol. during winter recess , im fixing the car and doing any mods , including the e36 lights , the car is being painted black in that time too.
