timing chain tensioner

I did the test talked about in the VTC TSB of the upper timing chain tensioners. I cranked the engine for several seconds after the upper chain covers were off and I found what I had suspected. The rear upper timing chain tensioner came out and stayed out. The front one flopped back and forth as the engine cranked (long enough for the oil light to go off.
I'm going to at least clean, and probably change this tensioner, but I can't find any info on whether there is a gasket or "o" ring for this front tensioner. Does anyone know? I want to make sure I'm ready to catch anything that may fall into the lower chain area when I disassemble it.

No gasket or seal on the tensioners. The machined surfaces on the tensioner and head/engine block seal directly to each other.

I have the Loud Clicking Noise at the rear (left) side of the engine and it appears to be the noise referred to in the VTC posts I've seen in this forum. Could this noise also result from the upper timing chain tensioner?

On 240SXs I know that when the timing chain tensioner would start to fail, and create a bit of slack in the timing chain, the chain would begin to slap against the heat shield making a horrible racket. Not as bad on the KA24DE as on the KA24E (more gears to go around on the DE, less slack to worry about). So it is plausible that the tensioner racking back and forth, if it's loose, or even the clain itself making a "clicking noise"... But on these cars it MUCH more likely that you have the VTC clack.

Assuming you have a VE, which you made no mention of...
