Good Exhaust System Brand?

Hey, my exhaust system is about shot - I don't want to spend a lot, but would be willing to buy a performance one since some of them I have seen are way cheaper than the stealership wants for a stock one..

What company makes the best one for a good price?

Id browse through the exhaust section and figure out exactly how much you want to spend. WSP and Cattman sell the full exhaust however it may be cheaper for you to part it together from different companies or from the classifieds. I have a Warpspeed Y and B (resonated) pipe w/ an RT cat and Stillen Muffler and i love it - prob one of the best setups ive heard on a maxima. I hear good things about Budget as well. Cattman is the best IMO but it will cost you more.

Thanks. Do you know exactly what each part is called?

Muffler of course, then Next pipe, then what Looks like another smaller muffler, then anything else?

Plus will they come with everything I need to mount them? Looks like most of that is rusted as well on my car.

Starting from the engine you have the headers, the Y-pipe, the cat, the B-pipe, and then the muffler. They are all separate pieces that bolt together. The round cannister looking thing in the B-pipe is called a resonator. You can opt to either get a B-pipe w/ or w/out one of these but I HIGHLY recommend getting a resonated one. It will be much less raspy and loud. WSP sent me new hangers for the pipes - im pretty sure most companies will. Its up to you what you want to replace however I would leave the headers stock since for most people the rest of the exhaust is a matter of simply getting under the car (headers are more difficult to get at and are pretty expensive, but cool nonetheless if you do choose to get them)

Greddy is the best sounding and looking, full stainless and nice quiet tone. I had the HKS rear section not as fancy as Greddy but very high quality, with the facotry b pipe, nice sound as well. Stock replacement on fleabay are dirt cheap around 130 plus 40 ship for a full setup, Greddy is 400 and HKS is 300.
Look around on the org and fleabay, you will find one you like.

Can someone explain to me exactly how a cat-back is able to add horsepower to the engine?? It seems like all the pushing has already been done.

budget y pipes are as good if not better than any other, make sure its ss. as for the catback, obx is a great one IMO. its cheap, sounds great (a bit loud tho) nad the stainless quality is superb, especially for the money.

Obx catback is great. Sounds loud and deep with no silencer, with the silencer which is adjustable either completely quiet or a little rumble.

Exhaust fows better

Catbacks add horsepower by allowing the engine's exhaust gas to escape faster reducing backpressure. Madrel bends, straight through resonators and mufflers help to smooth aout airflow. Add around 5-10 hp closer to the 5 range, in most cars N/A. The factory y-pipe is the most restictive part and you will get the most gains from if replaced with a mandrel bent one w/o cats, any brand. Expect around 10-20 hp increase with this, most bang for your buck mod hp wise. Hope this explained a little, exhaust goes in this order headers,y pipe, cat, b-pipe, rear section.

I am probably going to call cattman and have them build me a b-pipe with the biggest resonator they can fit on it to go with an HKS sport muffler.

Budget or WSP. Don't know too much about WSP and if they're having issues with bees in a can, but last winter when i visted Budget they showed me and the other .orgers what caused the bees in a can noise on their old y-pipes and the WSP y-pipe. Their problem has been fixed i believe a few years ago by changing the flex design. I've had mine for a few years through Ottawa/London winters and it's fine. I don't see the point in paying a premium for Stillen or Cattman. A 2.5" mandrel bent SS pipe is a 2.5" Mandrel bent SS pipe and as long as the flex is good you're safe to spend as little as you want. Some people may talk about the difference in welds and such, but seriously, how many people have had issues with the welding on their y-pipes?

Nobody needs a link to that Maximamods page everytime somebody asks input about a mod.
