Ok...i got into an accident...long story..diff thread..and the cost to repair it looks as if it's gonna roll in the 1k - 2k range.....now mind you..i only paid 2k FOR the car so personally im like, the cost ima pay to get it fixed...i might as well just buy another one, part this one out..and not be down 2k like it seems im going to be..every one i talk to ( my girl, my ex girl, my mom ) seems to believe it's smarter for me just to fix this car and ride it out. Personally im like i rather go to a damn nissan dealership...and buy myself a 98se 5speed, strip this one down till it looks like somein outta terminator...and then even sell the scrap steel to a junkyard for a couple bucks...and end out ahead..but everyone is making it seem to me like this is a stupid or not very smart idea and ends just saying ( just do what you feel ) which PISSES ME OFF!!! ....
if you guys were in the situation im in. would you buy another max lets say around 4000 4500 that you know has no problems and even if there's little **** broken or w/e you can take it offa your current max and slap dat b1tch right on....meaning you shouldnt have to spend ANY money in parts...then part out the old car and make a killin....or would you fix up the whip and just shell out the dough...paying more in repair costs then you paid for the car.
if you guys were in the situation im in. would you buy another max lets say around 4000 4500 that you know has no problems and even if there's little **** broken or w/e you can take it offa your current max and slap dat b1tch right on....meaning you shouldnt have to spend ANY money in parts...then part out the old car and make a killin....or would you fix up the whip and just shell out the dough...paying more in repair costs then you paid for the car.

j/k man.....from a financial standpoint, you'd come out on top either way. Just bare with my numbers, I'm just talking hypotheticals here....I mean, you buy a new max for like $4000, then part out your current one, who knows, you'd maybe make 50% of that in parts? So you'd end up spending only $2000 extra. However, if you just end up fixing the car, that in itself might cost you $2000, the same you would have to shell out with the first scenario. With that said, everyone's right: it is up to you. If you don't mind the hassle of parting the car out and keeping track of shipping all that ****, then go ahead and do that, esp if you got the time. I know I wouldn't. But this option is especially a good one becuase it'll give you a chance to go by that max you really wanted, e.g. a black on black max. I don't know if that's what you wanted, I'm just saying. I agree with goldtooth, a car is never the same after an accident. I personally don't have expereince with driving a repaired car, but I can say that I would no longer feel completely safe in it if I knew it sustained a lot of damage before. But if you got a personal attachement to that car, then fix the girl up and call it a day. I got a 98se 5spd and yeah, it's a winner for me....

Your first mistake is talking to women about cars. Your second mistake would be going to the damn Nissan dealership for a 98se. You definitely won't find a car you are looking for at 2 grand. Seriously though, I don't know your financial situtation but if you needed to just get by, I would keep the car and fix it up. i remember seeing the pics and it didn't look too bad. But if you want a 98se, then heres a reason for you to get one.
so far...$400 on parts and $400 on labor...
i'd probably buy another max around the 4k range if i went to a delar, i know i def wouldnt get another 2k deal like i did at this auction...i mean if the parts i need keep getting higher im just goinn say screw getting all the parts, fix what you can so i can drive it for the month. and be ok. as said..im not into pouring 1 - 2k into a car i paid 2k for....i mean the damage LOOKS cheap to repair...but i needed a new reinforcement bar, reinforcement bar holder, driver side headlight, bumper, fender, hood, and some bar under both driver and passenger side headlights that holds them together...whats scares me is he still hasnt even started tryna re-shape the thing...lord knows if it's possible, and ****, he has a max, im afraid he'll take osme hsit outta my engine and put it in his. that AND im afraid if he starts to re-shape it and that's not working out ima end up having to buy the frame on that side so he can weld in beause honestly to me that doesnt look like it can just be " pulled and straighted out "...

Fix the car....parting it out takes more time and effort than you think. You have to have a place to store the car for months if not a year, and from the looks of your car, it wasn't exceptional...ie no leather, and I don't see you getting $2000 from parting it....lets do some quick math:
Cloth interior: $75
Each Door: $100 (4)
Engine: $350
Tranny: $500
Right there..its $1325, all the other stuff in the car is Nickel and dime stuff...oops almost forgot about the airbags...$500 so you'll be close but I guarantee it will take about a year and the hastle of dealing with the stripping of the car and mailing stuff will not be worth it...unless you have the space/time.

If it is only a $2000 dollar car and repairs are 1-2 thousand why is it not totalled? Show your insurance what you paid, bill of sale, and show them the repair bill(s), they should total it out if it is close to half of the car's price. I would get the highest estimates possible. I would never fix a smashed up car, never are the same again, unless it was very minor.

It's a little different here. If I were to buy a new one I would have to go thru the hassle of MD inspection and that's a huge headache. Other than that if you can find a great deal and you haven't put too much money into your current max then I say go for a new one.
