Exhaust Suggestion (Cattman)

First, I want to say props to Andy and Larry for putting my Cattman Y Pipe and Cattman Cattback Exhaust on a couple of week ago. Thanks. I have not been hearing any banging go on since I have had this installed, until this week. Been on for about almost a month now.

However, this week, as I go over bumps in the road, etc, I have been hearing some banging going on in the back of the car, so I decided to take it to a muffler shop and found the problem. Everything is tight as can be, it just seems like it is a tight fit in this particular location. It appears where the pipe comes down do the muffer section, is banging against something. I dont even know what the part is called. I will attach some pics and hopefully I am making some sense on what I am trying to explain. The noise does not happen all the time, but it happens and is at times annoying. Im not sure if other people have had this problem with installing Cattmans cattback or not but thought I would ask for a possible solution. Is this normal? Thanks.

I have a Cattman rear and Frankencar b-pipe, but I get no such banging from that passage. I did beef up my exhaust hangers to pull everything higher by using hose clamps, so you could try that for a start or just get stiffer rubber hangers from Nismo or NAPA.

Picture of hose clamps around stock hangers:

Try also asking KCMC582, because he had the exact same issue you did with his Cattman y-pipe through cat-back set-up.

I was thinking about the hangers as well. Where can I get the Nismo ones at? Link? Thanks.

Google "Nismo exhaust hangers" and the first search result should be the link to Courtesy's website.....

sounds like a good way to solve the problem...

anyways, if nothing else helps, you can install universal exhaust hanger which solved my banging and really biffed up my exhaust.

Where exactly is the thing banging? If you wiggle your muffler, you should be able to pin point the noise...just try that out and get back to us...

and that is a picture of your rear suspension member and rear beam axle...if your muffler piping is hitting the rear suspension member....then theres your problem...but from the looks of the picture, i can't really tell

i would also say wiggle the exhaust and see where it was coming from. I had a banging with my greddy Evo before but it went away. But it was banging right when the rear exahust meats the b pipe. It looks like its banging where the b pipe sits in between those to metal flanges. But what i also did was i tighted up the bolt to the y pipe hanger. and i just messed with the rubber hangers a bit.

That is where it is hitting in the picture, not to the left side, but to the right side. Will different hangers solve the problem? Guess I could try that route.

u don't have to purchase hangers actually...just go buy some hose clamps and put them around your stock hangers...the tighter you go...the higher the exhaust piping will get...when i did mine, my test pipe and bpipe were both hitting the two different cross members.....after installing clamps onto the hangers...i saw the piping was raised a good half an inch up...pretty cool!

also hose clamps are so cheap

Just wondering where you got your cattman exhaust from and how much did you pay? Also how do you like the sound it produces on the local street? Thanks

i had the same problem with my greddy evo2, a few days ago i replaced the rubber hangers, not with nismo hangers just some we had at my job which were stiffer and slightly smaller than the stock ones. they worked perfectly, banging stopped, cost about $15 for all 3

Zip ties work just as good on the Nissan OEM rubber hangers. Just keep pulling tight until they are stiff. Works great and cheap!

I tried the zip ties, but they broke off(and I used 3 or 4 thick ones on each hanger). I ended up going for some beefy looking automotive hose clamps from a local auto parts store several months ago(harbor freight ones I had at home were crap). Cost was about $2(for 4), and they have not loosened since.

I found with driving aggresively on highway right hand clover (sweepers) ramps the exhaust was banging after 5 yrs of no problems....The problem during right hand turns and hearing exhaust banging is the Bpipe hangar mount! The exhaust bpipe hook was actually sliding thru the hangar mount and the piping is hitting the chassis hangar stud! So what I did was limit the side to side motion of the exhaust system using some old shockeye bushings (may need to enlarge ID bore), here's a pic of my setup on my 3"
