Ever use Spring clamps or compressors?

Has anyone here ever used spring clamps or spring compressors? How does the ride feel? I heard you can lower your car just by putting these clamps/compressors on? I need feedback because Im thinking of dropping my car but don't know if I should buy new springs or just use these clamps?

AHAHAHAHAH!!! I don't know if thats what they're called, but I heard there are some type of clamp you can put on your spring to drop it so you don't have to buy new springs? Maybe like a U-bolt, I don't know. Thats why I want to see if anyone has done this.

I don't think he means the big spring compressor used to take off springs. They are the little clamps that go onto two coils like a "c" shape then close the two coils together, sold in two packs. I would never drive with those, you might as well cut a coil off. It will ride worse than lowering springs on stock struts, don't do it, ride will be harsh. I guess you could use these to take a spring off, but I wouldn't feel safe doing it.

i have been in 2 cars with them and it all depends on the spring. i dont see why you guys are freaking out, its totally reversable. if it rides like crap just take them off. cutting springs is a one time thing, there is no going back.

Im just trying to lower it a little without losing to much of the stock comfort, u know. Yeah and I definatley don't want to cut them, but we'll see. Thanks for the replys

Yeah I have automatic....Really, so if I install just the front 5 speed springs I won't have to change the rear ones? Won't the handling be kinda weird?

I agree, get different springs!!! You are asking for trouble if you try that.

despite what others have said, my ride feels fine with those little clamps. I do not have bottoming out issues or extremely harsh ride. I actually like the way my car feels now. I have tested it out before and after on some twisties near my house, and it feels like it handles slightly better. I only grabbed 2 springs (one on the top part of clamp, one on bottom part). The ride is harsher than stock ride, but not too rough. I also like the fact that they can be removed if you don't like them anymore. I do believe, though that if you have the money to buy the actual lowering springs, that will be a much better alternative. i mainly did it cause I didn't have the money to buy lowering springs, and to this day haven't had the money to buy them

no the rates are the same, but the auto weighs more, thus a small drop. i gave tom (njmaxseltd)a pair and he loves riding on them. http://forums.maxima.org/showthread.php?t=433665

the rear springs are the same regardless of tranny, however the se model has stiffer rear springs.

cutting off one of the coils raises the spring rate, so clamping them is going to do the same thing. it will no hurt anything to try.
