system slowing car

Is it possible for ONLY a 12 and amp to do anything to slow the car at all or affect gas milage? I'm really picky about weight and like to keep the the car light.

If you're electrical system isn't up to par, it can.

The alternator will have to work harder to keep the battery charged as your system works. Also, it takes power away from other components such as ignition. Also, the weight from a box can affect weight distrobution.

ALL easily taken care of with the right components and some checks.
1. Have your charging system checked out, being a 2000 you shouldn't have any problems, but you never know till you ask.

2. Upgrade your wiring from the alternator, part of the big 3 upgrade. Also, you can get a grounding kit which help. www.blehmco.com has one for $50, and is designed by a member of the forum.

3. A single 12" subwoofer box isn't going to add much weight, but if you're concerned, Birch wood or MDF Ultralite is an option... expensive though.

One thing to consider is how much bass are you looking to add? There are subs out there can be a cheapy filler, to a SPL monster. Of course the SPL monster is going to be bulky and heavy. Just make sure what you're after. A cheapy light sub may not be what you're looking for.

lose weight. anything you add to the cars overall weight slows it down...unless it's a turbo.

Honestly you won't notice that much of a difference. I'd only x the idea if the car was going to be track runner.

You could always do a swap. Drop some of the interior and build a Fiberglass box. You'll be at the same point you started lol

I like dont even have bass now cause the stock sub is horrible and I cant even go like +3 on the stereo without getting rattle. I might just take that sub out and put in aftermarket co-axials with some bass to them. Be better than what I have now and wouldn't add weight

a basslink won't weigh your car down too much.

you should not be concerned with performance in a stock maxima. you can add a nice system and not notice any "butt dyno" performance losses. adding better tires can negate the loss in performance at the track IMO.

A 10 with a small box can be plenty of bass in most cars. Pretty lightweight, and it should not kill the power of the car in anyway unless you have poor electrical system.

I have a little ten in my car . I take it out sometimes. I took it out last week actually (just had my rear replaced and painted). My butt dyno never feels any difference.
