Ok guys here is my story. In case to figure out my gas milege(got car recently) i drained gas tank and filled it up with premium gas 24liters (6.3 gal)
And today it's compleatly drain and i got 150km's(~93 miles) it's ok or not???
Now it's very cold outside so besides 93 miles on the roads i was warming up car for about 6-7 times (within 4 days) about 10 minutes each time.
So whats your conclusion am i getting worsest gas milege on org. or not

 

That is a new record low. Are you sure you're doing the math right?

You must have a very clogged fuel filter, very old sparks, air filter full of dirt, low tire pressure, runny injectors,bad knock sensor, and all o2 bad causing the car to run rich.

I'd start with checking codes

 

what's that like 15mpg ish? i've gotten 16-17mpg on cold days with quick 5 minute trips each way in town. not too uncommon, is your cel on? might be a sensor that needs changing.

 

Maybe there's a hole in your gas tank

 

6.3gal? We have an 18 gallon tank....

changed oil&oil filter+air filter recently.
Have n't checked spark plugs yet and gas filter probably it's still from date of manufactory i.e 1997

 

If you only put 6.3gallons of gas in your car them you consumption is fairly decent.

I think there was an error in your math, or you didnt realize that you only put 6.3 gallons in the car.

 

Its not too bad. Warming up the car kills your MPG.

I don't have numbers but currently i'm at 1/2 tank with only 9x miles. Normally i'm near 1/2 tank with about 120 miles. But i guess those 30 some odd miles went to warming up the car. Its normal for to get 16/17 mpg in the winter times i guess. Don't be too worried.

 

OK i'm giving to you my math. May be there is mistake(but shouldn't be i checked it twice) i put 24 Liters in gas tank now it's drain i got 150kilometers on my odo.

there is nothing wrong.

24 liters = 6.340129 gallons.

6.3gals x 20(mpg)
= 126 miles before you tank is empty again
or
= 202km before you tank is empty again.

to fill you tank you'd need to put ~60 liters to fill the tank up (~16 gallons)

I originally thought you were getting 6.3 miles to the gallon.

How old are you spark plugs? What is your tire pressure?

This is debatable: what kind of tires do you have on? maybe all season tires, reduce gas economy in the winter time. Your in ontario so I know there must be a lot of snow on the ground.

Ok my tire pressure 35 all the way around checked today. Haven't checked spark plugs yet no time (damn job) but i think it's 97 ooooooooooold. This year a little snow roads are clear.

 

To check mpg you need to fill the tank up all the way and then drive till it is almost empty. Refill the tank all the way, and then divide the total miles on the odometer by the number of gallons you filled up with on the gas station ticket.

THis guy filled it up with only 6.3 gallons and then drove 93 miles till the fuel was "compleatly drain" (which I don't know how he knew it was completely drained... did he drive until his car stalled on the side of the road or did he time it just right and then look in the gas tank by removing the access lid under the rear bench). THis comes out to 14 mpg.

He needs to fill it up all the way.

 

maybe you have a heavy foot ? what about 02 sensors are they good and what octane gas did you use. i hear 93 will get you a few more miles down the road compared to a low grade fuel.

 

It was premium gas. No i was driving on econ. manner. (just a couple of times whooped some civic's ases-my bad )

 

First of all if you keep doing that say bye bye fuel pump shortly. Why would you drive it till its completely drained? BAD BAD BAD.

I think you did something wrong here or the car has some fuel consumption problems. Check ECU for ghost codes.

It is amazing how many weird incorrect methods people will come up with to check their fuel economy.

 

what this guy needs is a digital fuel meter haha... the analog meter will never be 100% accurate. Ever notice the needle goes up around some turns, and down around others? (i forget left or right)

As long as you do the proper maintenance on the car and its in decent workin order the fuel mileage will be fine.

Check the air filter, fuel filter, PCV valve, thermostat ( not sure if itll work on our cars but my friend ended up havin no thermostat in his civic after he bought it and after he put it in his mileage near doubled) 02 sensors, spark plugs, clean ur throttle body, put some fuel system cleaner in.

 

Yup that is the only true way to test your mileage. But to add to it, if you are racing, you are using more gas. And are you automatic or 5 speed? If you are 5 speed maybe you are just shifting too high into your RPM's and should cut back some.

 

i think its normal, i get the same mpg.s when i put that much amount of gas. but on the highway, iget over 450 mpgs with my plugs, 2 of the 02 sensor, knock sensor, and the short ram A I. and remember you are doing that HONDA hating thing and also warming up your car.

my car ******* sucks with gas tooooo..its a 96 just changed the knock and 02 sensors, i get about 40 - 50 miles for quarter of a tank highway. i barely let it warm up..i think i might have to clean my throttle body

 

hello fellow orgers....what is 6.3 some magic number why not 6.349..anyway I hate to reiterate but you must fill it up all the way to get a true MPG number. I clean my throttle and give my 95 a fuel injection flush ever 15,000 miles and change my plugs every 25,000 and my fuel economy is right at 325 per tank of gas. If you do all of these things and then it still is off..I hate to say this but take it to a dealership and see if one of their Nissan Master Techs can pick something up on consult (tech computer)

I've been a part of the org for about two months and it is crazy how many different ways people track their mpg....and they all do it WRONG.

 

If you are taking your gas milage seriously, do not relate to how far you can go on a quarter tank or crap like that. On a fill up where I pay attention to fill as much as I can without it running out, I can drive over 100 miles before the needle drops below the full mark. Then again, I probably can not go 80 miles from a quarter of a tank until the needle is below empty.
If you are really serious about checking your milage, as noted above, fill it up. Also try to fill it up at the same station at the same pump if the ground is not perfectly level. A little tilt can make a difference in how much will go into the tank. You don't really need to go until it is empty, but it does average out a little more acturately.
When you refill after going 300 miles divide the amount of gallons into the amount of miles. If it took 15 gallons to fill it to where you were when you started, then 15 goes into 300, 20 times, so you got 20 miles per gallon.
As noted, cold weather probably hurts gas milage if you are going a lot of short trips. But what really hurts is leaving it running for ten minutes before driving . That's getting ZERO miles per gallon at that point and that averages in.

 

And one more thing: how many litres are in a gallon? The math didn't look good to me. The guy who posted is in Canada? Did they use the British gallon in Canada? The British gallon is larger than the American gallon! So if you convert using the British gallon and then you guys in the US think he's referring to USA gallons . . . bahaha! (This is why the Mars lander crashed a while ago, remember? If NASA can't get it right ....)

 

math looks fine, there are 3.78 liters to 1 US gallon.

 

Canada uses litres.

 

Hope I am not jacking the thread, but what IS the Max tank made of?
I'm a bit paranoid about plastic tanks because I've had *two* plastic Ford tanks split open along the seam.

 

170,000 and still getting 22/27 miles to tha gallon

 

The tank is metal.
