Anyone hacked their Nav?

I plan to get Nav when I trade my '04 Max in on an '07, but I despise the way so many functions on OEM Nav's are disabled while you're moving.

On my '06 Infiniti M45, I've done a hack that eliminates this. The info was provided on an M forum and it involves splicing into a wire that tells the system the car is moving and placing a switch in the circuit. Given that the Max's Nav is from the same parent (Nissan), I'm wondering if the same hack can be done to it.

So has anyone done a similar hack on their Maxima?

Nope. But I'm interested. Keep this thread alive! There's many times that my co-pilot can't do a thing because the car isn't smart enough to understand that there is 2 people in it. I'd especially like the nag screen to go away.

there is a no nag mod for the MURANOs which shares the same nav system that of our max... nissanmurano.org? it think his name is generator... with the nav while moving.. MY FX has the mod for it.. it cost less than $5... not sure if the wire colors are the same and all, but all you need is to splice on wire and put on the switch and your done..

This hack doesn't do anything for the nag screen, but it does return full functionality to the Nav. Only rub, of course, is that while the motion circuit is turned off, the Nav's tracking is disabled. But it finds you again when you flip the switch back to ON.

That's a small "inconvenience" for getting to program the Nav without stopping on the side of a busy highway.

(And BTW ... no point in trashing me for disabling a so-called safety device. I can probably handle my Nav while moving as well as you can handle your iPod, Blackberry and cellphone.)

That's the main reason that I did not get the nav when I bought my car last August.
Having my carputer along with the touchscreen gives me all the functionally of the stock nav system and then so much more.

Would doing this mess up the warranty? What if your Navi breaks would they cover it if you have this mod?

Is that because you've hacked your navi to say, "Hey honey" before every detailed direction!?

kapesports - I think I emailed the guy and he said he retired that product in August. I am too late.

I don't think anyone can say for 100% certain some service department won't try to say it voids the warranty on your Nav. But to make that stick, they'd have to show that the mod actually caused some kind of damage you're trying to get fixed.

For example, if you futzed up the wiring and caused a short that blew something out, I think you're on your own. But this is such a simple, straightforward hack that it would be hard to really cause any damage. And since my Nav's DVD player is buried up in the dash behind the glovebox, and also since I covered my splice carefully and made it hard to even see, I doubt it would ever even be noticed.

But as with any mod, you do this at your own risk.

Sorry if this has been posted/updatd elsewhere - but my 45 mins of thread searching on here (and google!) hasn't seemed to offer up a bonafide update within the last 12-24 months that this works for 6th gens. (I'm not interested in any DVD player action - just mapping.)

Has anyone found a surefire/easy way to enable NAV programming while in motion on a 6th gen Max?

Thanks all.
