Have you done any work in the engine bay recently?
Disconnected anything? Maybe forgot to plug it back in?

hmm.. possible
but hang on for some of the more experienced mechanics here to reply first.

I've got a feeling it's something to do with the engine though. (bad ignition coil, loose wire connector, faulty sensor, etc.) Odd that the ECU has no codes.

Your coilpacks are going bad, since you said the CEL flashed(indicates a misfire detected) and since you have a 99, im 95% sure your coilpacks are starting to fail..

It's VERY common for coilpacks to do this on 99's.

pretty sure its the coilpacks too. mine sheisted out cel flashing n all and i got some from a junk from a '96 motor. Soon enough those junked out on me too. Try to get some from a decent mileage '98 (get the mitsubishi ones) or buy new. i'm hoping the group deal comes through quick in teh group deal section.
