VQ Powered S13 Video Compilation

Some of you may know about my VQ 240 project vehicle. This thing is a serious work in progress. I've been working on it for a 9 months. Things are slow in the making but when its done civics for miles will be grabbing their ankles.

My buddy Mark(CSVT)put this video together for me. I know it sucks that the shots are all in the dark but basically the car is ugly as **** right now. Lots more pics and details on my homepage and many more vids to come this summer when the rear suspension is all tricked out.

what ecu you runnin on that thing? Once i get my auto transmission running right ill come and visit yo. I got 01 engine with GF ecu, ****ing transmission is shorted out or something..way off topic.

its got the J30 diff.. to my knowledge its a VLSD.. it should have spun both wheels.. and the tires he ahd on there were sh*t
I screwed up on the street fire description tho.. i put I 30 insead of J30..

ahh yes i had a j30 diff in my 240. the VLSD sucks though once it heates up it stops working.

Definitely a 1.5 way diff in the future. But probably not very near.

Questions answered:
-No tunning software thus far. Not sure what route I want to take yet.

-The J30 diff is fine for everything but drifting and doughnuts. Since I don't plan on doing much of either it will work just fine until the rest of the suspension is done and the blower is on.

-ECU and harness is the one out of my Maxima. 95 Auto.

-I don't like VI's. If I do anything it will be a MEVI with the butterflies cut out or possible a DE-K with all that crap removed. If I win the lottery and buy a TIG I'll do a custom IM designed for high revving.

how was the motor mount instalation ?

and how much for a 350z tranny ?

Edit: never mind, i find the price on ur site

... do u have some pic of the mount ... lets say i want to do a 3.5 swap in a s14 .. should i get a rwd 3.5 or not ?

So far the whole project has cost me just under $7K. That includes the cost of the car($850) and the blower parts which are not yet installed.

I had some a pic of the mount but I can't seem to find it. Its tough to explain. I used 1/4"x3" steel and bolted that to the OEM FWD mount location on the block. I extended it forward about 9" and then brought it down to the crossmemeber with 1/4"x1.5" angle iron. Then boxed in the angle iron. Then used a 1/4" square piece of steel to distribute the load over the hockey pucks.

For the tranny mount I modified OEM KA tranny mount.

I need to get some pics. Later this week.

Yes, the 95 is parted. I still have the rolling chassis with windows. Its for sale actually. Tilley might come over here and pick it up.

Ya i start the car and it gives me a transmission codes off the ecu and tcm. I dont even move it. I got a date on thursday for the shop around i could find to check it for 60 bucks.I got 2 trannys and both transmission have the same problem when installed. I hope its a fuse or wire other wise im at a bust for why its being lame.

Nice running the 95 auto ecu! haha, i just got my GForce/TS auto ecu from someone off the org and now i guess TS stopped doing the 90's maxima ecu. I called to get my rev limited to 7k i guess not now

Yeah, last time I checked the tail doesn't wag on a powerbrake when its peg leggin'.

Neal, 2240lbs but that was a long time ago. Since then a lot more has been removed. That was just before I started the swap. Also the VQ/6MT combo is lighter than the KA/5MT. My guess is that its now in the low 2100 or maybe even 2000 arena. I'd love to get sub 2K but I don't think thats going to be possible without composite parts. And since I've had a bad experience with CF...

Broaner- you know you want a Megasquirt like Allen22 and I are doing

Ive got my 240 and im daily driving it while I fix some issues on the max and when I pick up my VQ in the middle of april Im going to start working it the swap!

Yep, hole in the hood otherwise it wouldn't fit. I may drop it lower once I redo the front suspension next winter. The plan is a cowl with a small clamshell for the blower like the drag supra's


Alex, I am contemplating the Megasquirt but I don't have a laptop.

Neal, they are in the 2700lbs range stock. The day I bought it my buddies and I started stripping it. Within one week it was down to 2300lbs. Also keep in mind that the coupes are lighter than the FB's.

I really have no idea what I'm going to do for the motor yet. I have the V1. But other than that I have no idea what route I'm going to go with building the motor. I plan on getting all the suspension, chassis and safety stuff done first. Then the motor. Finally, when all that is done I'll rip it all back down, put the chassis on a rotisserie(sp?) and sand blast it like crazy. Then bring it straight to the body shop for spraying.

I've got to find someone to make me custom motor mounts, so I can do this.

This just makes sense, ie cheap VQs+light RWD+FI options. I want one BAAAAaaaad.

What had to be done to the driveshaft to fit?

Custom 3" steel driveshaft made to 57 something inches. I had to buy a Z driveshaft for the output shaft to the tranny. I had it made locally for $270. The shop decided that the stock u-joint wasn't beefy enough for the power I want to make. So they ordered aftermarket joints with the correct beefier flange for the diff.

Okay....

Basically, a custom driveshaft using a 350Z driveshaft tranny end and a beefier diff end, right?

Do you know if the Silvias have a beefier diff flange then the US 240SX?

I would assume they do not.

I can make you mounts but they're going to put the motor in same position as mine.

That would be very difficult. There is basically no way to measure something like that. Its best done when its a tack in place type thing.

I've got pics up now on my homepage of the motor mounts.

I would drop off the car and engine/tranny and they do the rest.

I have a friend who is doing something similar at a shop now, so hopefully everything turns out and I can use them.

send your V1 to Vortech and get it upgraded to a V1 T-trim.

I've been debating with myself about this blower. Boost piping complicates things so much. I really do love the sounds of boost and all the benifits that it can do for a small displacement motor but...

You should consider the Z intake manifold. I think it would work quite well as far as working with the blower piping.

I know it wouldn't be a bolt on to VQ30 heads, but it shouldn't take much modification (port matching maybe) to get it to work.

I've been toying with the idea of VQ35 heads. I've never seen a pic of the Z IM from a frontal view like that. Seriously though, there are a ton of ideas in my head. Its going to be at least 8 months before I implement any of them.

My most recent idea involves selling the V1 and running an M90 on a custom IM. It would stick way out of the hood but at that point I wouldn't care.

Another idea also involves selling the v1 and running a single turbo setup in front of the motor.

$hit man the piping is the easiest part. Just buy some mandrel aluminum bends on ebay and and piece it together.
