Can i add a hitch? Or anything towing related?

Hey guys, i need to do some furiture buying in the short furture. Light stuff that i'm postive won't fit in my maxima's trunk. Mainly due to the lack of size. and lack of rear fold down seats.

I wanted to borrow a hitch and mini trailer. I'm not going to do a heavy duty stuff. Just hauling a computer table. Med. side glass coffe table and a entertainment center pre-assembled.

Where might i be able to find some of the stuff needed to add on to my maxima?

Yes, you can. A member had a hitch on his stillen kitted Maxima actually. I don't know what goes into installation though.

Go by a U-Haul station. You can buy one there and install it yourself or you can let them do it. I paid around 250 for mine installed...that included the hitch, the plug for the trailer lights, and labor.

not sure where you'd get one, but I have a 1" hitch on my car. The maxima does decent towing, I've towed our jetski with mine, no problems (that was just transporting though, not actually putting it into the water)

wow ok i feel a lot better now. At first i thought most the replies was going to be calling me a dumb xxx. for even trying to tow with the car. I know the car can tow 1000lb aleast. I think i read it in the manual.

Can someone show me a picture of how a hitch looks on a maxima and how reverseable is it. How hard would it be to install it yourself? I've been to a couple of u-hauls around here when i was moving and they just seem like shady people that i wouldn't let them touch my car. Thats what i ask.

I dont have any pics that I can upload, just one on my phone I took a couple weeks ago.
The hitch mounts up to the stock tow hook locations, you might need longer bolts. And also you'll have to have on the stock muffler or it will rub and knock against it or it might not fit at all.
Yes the Maxima pulls a trailer great. I've pulled my other Max on a car dolly with no problems...could hardly tell it was back there. And I've pulled 1000lb A/C units and still pulled on Civics.
If you have an automatic, I'd suggest installing a tranny cooler, your tranny will thank you.

Well i am an auto but i only do on planning using it for it these 2 times and possible, 1 trip for the computer table and coffee and the 2nd for the entertainment center. And i dont plan on using it later then that but then again i might need it. Its more of if i needed it i have it avaible when i find more stuff i would like to have.

If you have time JNCo please take a picture of the how the hitch looks on a maxima. As of right now i'm almost ready to get it installed. I just need to confrim that its in a $250 ball park figure at my local u-haul and see if it looks odd at all with my car. i looked it up seems like its only 7 bolts to hold it up and the hitch is $99.99 at uhaul.

7 bolts? damn..

i installed a hitch on my mothers wrangler last year (hidden hitch) and it used only four bolts.

however, this is probably because the wrangler is designed with something like this in mind with well placed holes through the frame to connect a hitch securely. they were really big bolts too...

Rent a home depot truck. Much simpler, safer, and probably cheaper.

Yeah, I think renting a u-haul type commercial van or small truck would be cheaper. Especially if you're never gonna use it again.

A tow hitch on a maxima just looks out of place and ugly, rent a small van or something for 20 bucks an hour or all day. Why put a hitch on and spend the money when it just makes your maxima look even worse.

Function over form. Who cares how it looks. If it's that big of a deal it can be taken off.

Well first off. going the U-haul truck isn't the easiest and cheapest way. Mainly because i'm 19 and U-haul doesn't let me get one of the smaller trucks because of my car. So i have to drive a bigger one. don't understand that rule at all. I rented u-haul twice. Drove it for 3 hours and about 25 miles. It ended up costing me $55 or so each times i rented from them. So the 2 times that i need it now would be another 110 and if i ever needed one later on the road its another.

How does Home-Depot trucks work? The mainly problem i get is people don't allow me to rent the truck due to the fact that i'm 19 and i have a out of state lincese. If there are places where i can rent a truck all day it would be great for $50 with unlimited miles i would love that. The 2 times at uhaul i was in a rush too because they only gave me a time spand of 4 hours cause someone with higher proioty came into way.

yea but i also need a trailer as well. Plus where the car is at right now there is a chance that it might rust the bolt holes and what not.

I see your point in having it right then and there. I have no problem bolting and unbolting but rust and such might come into play.
