Guys please help with alternator
Guys please help with alternator
Ok here is my problem since i bought the car alternator makes whining noise all the time(i thought ok i can live with that) at night my lights dim when i press brakes or turn on something (but it seems like just on sec.) also when i rev up engine lights getting brighter (more then 1000rpm). Today finaly got time and went to buy a amp.tester. Before doing any tests i cleaned up both terminals +- then after i messed up my hands i finally reached ground terminal on engine block and sand it also.
So here what I got
Not started engine --- 11.70v
Started --- 12.50v
Rev up 2000rpm --- 13.60v
Heater/headlights/rear windiw heater/stereo/ (rev up)--- 12.60v max
Heater/headlights/rear windiw heater/stereo/ (700rpm)--- 11.30v
So...............new alt???
If it's alt can i buy 110amp???? (because in local parts store 110 a lot cheaper than 125 amp.)

Doesn't seem like anything wrong. Those are OK voltages for an older battery. Haven't measured mine but the fact that the volts goes up means it's charging. My lights brighten up with revs too
Any other symptoms? Dead battery one morning, starting slow?
Or is it just the whine bothering you?

Could be the voltage regulator in the alt. Im not an alt. expert but I would say if you don't have a large stereo system in your car a 110amp should do fine. I would go with the 125 myself but hay it's your car!
How old is your battery?? Cables all in good condition?? Start there and if nothing works replace the alt... At least you'll have new cables and battery if nothing else. It can't hurt. The whining is probaly the bearings going out in the alt.. First sign of future failure
Also make sure your belt is not too tight......... That tends to wear out the bearings really fast

Yesterday start was really rough cause starter was turning very slow(-27C morning)
I dont know what to think
I'd say your alternator is bad. The battery in my max is nearly 4 years old and I still have a consistant charge of 13.6-14volts at idle. You aren't charging at 13.6 volts until 2,000 rpms...so IMO your alternator is toast. And 110 amp will be fine if you don't have a system in your car (I went with 125amp just because I could get one brand new with no core for under $200) and installed it myself
You indicated 11.7V with engine not running. A charged battery with less than 12 volts is on its last leg. A constant whine from an alternator with a properly tensioned belt is also not going to last much longer. Personally I'd replace both. Better to spend a little now and have some reliability than to be stranded miles from home.
Your alternator is definitely going bad. Happened to my Max soon after I bought it. 4th gen alternators aren't the strongest things. It's probably a seized bearing. Replace the alternator NOW otherwise it will just die on you one day and then you're f$cked. I dealt with mine for a few months because I couldn't figure out where the whining was coming from. I thought it was the belts or my idler pulley, especially since the problem was worse when it was wet and rainy (still don't understand why!).
Repeat, replace the alternator NOW. If you don't, you're drastically shortening the life of your battery at the least due to the increased load, and at worst you're setting yourself up for an inconvenient breakdown. I think you'll probably pay around $400 for the part and labor at a Nissan dealer, but that's just from my recollection. You can get the OEM part cheapest at www.worldpartsexpress.com and then have your dealer install it or install it yourself to save a lot of money. My understanding is it's not terribly difficult but you have to remove the belts and stuff.
A parts-store alternator will probably work fine, but I'd go with OEM unless it's way more expensive. 110 amp is standard I believe, only a few Maximas with whatever "package" came with the 125 amp alternator. But 125 wouldn't hurt.

Get a Haynes manual, it's very worth the price.

No shipment to Canada but thanks.
I read stickies and motorvate.ca
That guy says that he unscrew the tensioner first and then pulley but when he ended up with replacement he screw the tensioner and then tighten the pulley

Biiiiiiiiiiiiiig thanks
