Sup fellas,

Another B-Pipe question...I have a Cali-Spec Y-pipe already so with that, am I right in saying that right now, there is no pipe between the Catalytic converter and the muffler and the B-Pipe is kinda like an extension between the Cat and the exhaust? Oh yeah and what does the b-pipe do again?

The B-pipe basically connects the cat to the muffler. In between, there is the resonator. Cali spec and fed spec are different in that in the fed spec, there will be a piece in the pipe after the cat that has a hole for an O2 sensor. The cali spec version has an extension between the cat and resonator that does not have the sensor hole.

I did use your FAQ Kev...all it says is that the B-Pipe is after the Cat...Anyway...I went to a muffler shop that does custom jobs and he explained the whole thing to me. Putting in a B-Pipe will start from the cat and eliminate the resonator so there will be a pipe straight from the cat to the catback then to the muffler... I think! It will make it louder, but a performance cat and this "b-pipe" will account for more power/hp. (he said guys call it an a-pipe b-pipe, y-pipe so he didnt know exactly what I was talking about when I said b-pipe)
He actually told me that guys usually have the whole system all the way through to the muffler done and then add a performance muffler....But my main concern is sound. What should I do guys. Should I let him do the b-pipe and a catback? Holla back!

P.S. I'm still learning so cut a brova some slack-jack!

Exact quote from Maxima.org's FAQ, "A b-pipe is the piping immediately behind the catalytic converter to the muffler." That's the same definition you just gave.

You can have him put a resonator on your b pipe if you like (it might be too loud for you w/out one so ). I say have him put a resonator on for the sake of your ears.

P.S. Learning is good.

Thanks Kev but..isn't the resonator what's causing some of the power to be lost? From what the muffler guys told me, he would cut out the resonator on both ends of it and put the B-pipe where the resonator was (this is about a foot and a half long). If you put a b-pipe where the resonator was, how can you put another resonator on the b-pipe? Anybody had any experience in dealing w/this whole scenario? Is that indeed where the b-pipe belongs and can you indeed put maybe a small resonator on it to make if quieter? Input, I need Input!!! Holla.

The b-pipe contains a resonator. I'm not sure if you understand, but the exhaust piping after the cat and before the muffler is the b-pipe no matter how you look at it (with or without resonator). I don't suggest chopping up your stock b-pipe because you might want to use it later. Also, the stock b pipe has crimps and bends which you won't get rid of by replacing only the resonator with a straight pipe.

the b-pipe gives no permormance gains.... at least not for me and if u want a quieter car put a resonator on it..... i have one but it is still kinda loud..... and i have a problem with the pipe hitting the bottom of my car! oh well the shop will fix it!

Aren't you losing torque by getting a catback system and a performance muffler?

not unless it is a large diameter. If you stick with 2.5", you should be fine.

Ok, ok, ok, I think Im getting it....I was under the impression that the B-Pipe was just a few inches long the whole time! I thought is was just like a foot or so long but like you said, its that whole pipe from the resonator back to the muffler. Ok that being said, whats all the hype about it then? Is there a special way you can get the b-pipe modified/customized so that it gives better performance? Or is it even worth it. The mechanic said he did that mod all the time and he could do the whole b-pipe for me all the way back to the muffler for me. Has anyone had it done that has any pics of it? If I let hime do the b-pipe up to the muffler, what kind of pipe should I let him use...I also have a random-tech cat coming in!

the stock b-pipe has a lot of bends and crimps in it. If you get a modified b-pipe it will be less restrictive. You would have to swap out the entire pipe rather than modify the stock one.
