'sup guys. yesterday i swapped out my stock intake for a cone filter and a 3inch intake tube for my '92 GXE that i got from autozone. Its not a CAI. Everything fit fine, but the problem is that when I started it this morning from sitting over night. the car would not stay on at all.

It kept shutting off, the same symtoms when I had a bad MAF. I would have to start the car race the engine past 2K rpms to keep it running. The idle would drop to 700rpm after letting up on the accel.
Now here is the crazy thing. When the car is running at normal temp. I have no problems starting after driving around for a while. One thing though is when I change gears (automotic) the rpms drop below 600.

check the wires, make sure the maf sensor is plugged in good, wiggle teh cable on it, and tap it.

 

If you were a little rough on the maf [maybe knocked it around a little] it's possible you may have damaged it....They are kinda fragile..

it's also possible the wiring harness going to it is loose or otherwise not making a good connection...Or the maf sensor itself is dirty....

 

maybe you broke the MAF sensor???? if so i have like 2 of them

 

Vans, you are starting to sound like internetautomart, maybe you should change your title.

anyway, if you only messed around with the intake, then check your MAF like most of the guys had stated, and the plug that goes into it as well, it also won't hurt to check for fragile rubber hose (vacuum leak) as when you remove your stock intake box and snorkel out, you might have bumped into a few.

my vg had the same problem. i dont think its the maf. summer time it would run fine but in cold weather, youd have th hold the gas a lil right after start up.never figured out wat it was. good luck

 

^^^^ most likely vacuum leak since summer = hot = rubber expand, sealing cracks

winter = cold = rubber shrinks = exposes crack

that is the same reason why some of you guys smells gas coming through your vent in the winter.

 

I'm happy to report my start up problem is fixed, Disgruntled was right, it was vacuum leak. I went to autozone got a 2 foot long hose slightly bigger than the stock one. Now it runs great. thanx guys.
